A Child's Remembrance of Baba Jaimal Singh by Channan Singh - Light and Sound on The Path: Sant Mat Radhasoami Spirituality

A Child's Remembrance of Baba Jaimal Singh by Channan Singh - Light and Sound on The Path: Sant Mat Radhasoami Spirituality

A Child's Remembrance of Baba Jaimal Singh by Channan Singh found in, The Soldier Sage of Beas: Glimpses of the Life and Teachings of Baba Jaimal Singh, by David Lane. This account was given in March of 1978 by one of the last surviving disciples of Baba Jaimal Singh Ji (1838 -- 1903).

Below are excerpted a few interesting and informative stories from this collection.

After the Passing of Soami Ji Maharaj Radha Ji Instructed Bibi Rukko to Stay with Jaimal Singh

When Soami Ji died his wife instructed Bibi Rukko to leave Agra and stay with Baba Ji on the banks of the River Beas so as to look after him. Mana Singh came later and served Baba Ji and was his pathi. Baba Ji would sit in meditation for long hours, so someone walked to the Beas railway station to buy chapatis for one rupee. They lasted a long time as Babaji would only eat whenever he came out of meditation. When the chapatis became dry, he soaked them in water and ate them.

Sometimes we were allowed to sit with Baba Ji and he would freely talk to us. He said one day "I will be leaving soon."

We asked, “Leaving for where?”

He replied, “Sipla Dweep, the other world where Sat Purush Soami Ji has ordered me to go.” He was not very old, but then on another occasion he said “Soon I will be leaving my body.”

Bibi Rukko asked, “Where will you continue your work?”

“In Babu Sawan Singh,” he said.

But Bibi Ji protested. “You are so stout, so big, Sawan Singh is so thin and delicate, how can this be?”

To this Baba Ji replied, “You do not understand.” But Bibi Ji was still inquisitive. Baba Ji kept quiet for some time, then he asked, “Bibi Ji, what have you cooked for lunch?”

She said, “Spinach.”

“Is it still cooking?” He asked. As she said it was.

Baba Ji then said, “Have you put salt in it?”

“Yes, I have.” was the answer. “Have you put rock salt or ground salt in it?”

“Rock salt,” she replied.

“All right,” He said. “Go and look and see if the rock salt is still there.”

She came back and said, “No, the rock salt is not there.”

At this Baba Ji said, “Now do you understand? Just as the salt mixes with spinach, in the same way I shall merge into Babu Sawan Singh.”

But still Bibi Rukko protested.” I will not accept him.” she said.

Baba Ji became displeased and said, “Whoever does not accept Him, hell will be open to him. You will have to accept him -- this is very important.”

Baba Jaimal Would Copy Shabads (Hymns) of Soamiji Maharaj from the Sar Bachan Radhasoami Poetry

"I've then returned to my own home but after some time I thought I should go to Beas again for Baba Ji’s darshan. When I next saw him I asked him to please write me a prayer, which he did. After eight days I again went to see Baba Ji because I wanted him to write me another prayer.

"This time he wrote Mangla Charan * by Soami Ji, which starts

'Whosoever recites Radhasoami Naam

Sails across the ocean of life;

All troubles and strife vanish,

And he abides in a state of bliss.'

"After a few days I returned yet again and Baba Ji said, 'Child, what is it this time?' I asked for another prayer. This time Baba Ji wrote Dhan, Dhan Pyarey, which is also from Soami Ji’s Sar Bachan, but at the end he asked, 'Are you really learning these Shabds or just taking them?'

I replied, 'Baba Ji, I learn them on the way home.' Baba Ji was very happy.

"Next time I went, Baba Ji kindly wrote out another Shabd for me. But after this it was six months before I went again. On this occasion Baba Ji, after making sure that I knew all the Shabds he had given me, said, 'Today I will complete all your work.'

"I said, 'As you wish, Master.' But then I added, 'Baba Ji, what is the work you will complete?'

"He replied, 'I will look at Sar Bachan and let you know.'

"After a little time had passed Baba Ji opened the book at the Shabd 'Listen O friend, I will now tell you the secrets of the inner planes.' He then started copying this and the following four Shabds which give details of all the higher spiritual regions **."

[Note: *  Manglacharan, a term used for the opening portion of a prayer or sacred text, is at the very beginning of Sar Bachan Radhasoami Poetry, Volume One, by Soamiji Maharaj.]

[Note: ** "Shabds which give details of all the higher spiritual regions", very much the focus of the Sar Bachan Poetry volumes especially the section called Hidayat Namah (Esoteric Instructions).]

Jaimal Had Some Prashad of Soami Ji Stored in a Box Within a Box

But one day Babaji was standing there so I asked him, “Master you have never given me any prashad -- you have never given me any blessed food to eat.”

He said, “Will you be able to digest prashad?”

I answered, “Baba Ji, I cannot say whether I will be able or not. Maybe you will give me a big quantity.”

Baba Ji went into his room, he opened a box, and in this box there was another small box. It contained prashad that Soami Ji had given Baba Ji many years ago. I thought, ‘Probably my share is also there.’

Baba Ji again said, “I hope you will be able to digest it.”

I just said, “This is up to you, for I do not know ifI can or not.” With his two fingers Babaj Ji gave me a tiny, tiny bit. I said, “Oh Baba Ji, this is so little!”

He replied, “You are saying it is little. I am saying it is more than enough if you can digest it.”

I said, “Very well, I will eat it in your presence right now.” With that, I quickly swallowed it, and said, “Baba Ji, there is nothing left in my mouth.”

He laughed, and said, “All right, it is gone into the whole of your body, now if you digest it, it will be more than enough for you.”

Jaimal's Reverence for the Adi Granth (Sikh Scriptures)

Baba Ji made us sit in the room where the Adi Granth was kept wrapped under a white cloth.

Rare Photo of Jaimal

It is such a pity that there are no photographs available of Baba Ji. Actually, no photographs could ever be taken. Whenever anyone came with a camera, Baba Ji would say, “What will this camera do if I do not wish my photograph to be taken? It depends on my wish whether it can be taken or not.” But I found later on that Hazur had one photograph. One day when Hazur and I were sitting together we had an argument. I said, “I know you have a photograph of Baba Ji, why don't you take it out?”

Hazur replied, “Channa Singh, I did not mean to hide that photograph from you. The photograph that I have is not of the time when Baba Ji was in service.” Then Hazur opened a small box; there were three photographs inside, two of which were someone else, the third of Baba Ji.

Hazur said, “All right. Which of these three boys is Baba Ji?” I could not recognize him. At this Hazur took them back.

NDE/OOBE

About five years back when I was ninety I became ill. I received Hazur’s radiant form inside, but he did not talk to me. I got up and sat on this couch where I am now sitting, and I called a lawyer, and I made a will. In the evening I started vomiting. My youngest son was called. Both my sons stayed with me until two in the morning. I asked for some herbal medicine made by a local satsangi, and as soon as I took it the vomiting stopped. I told my sons to return to their homes as I felt well again.

I lay down, and as soon as my head touched the pillow my soul went up. I saw some man telling Baba Ji, “True Emperor, your boy has come.”

Baba Ji replied, “Silly fellow, how has he come?”

The man said, “Babaji, he has come by himself. No one has brought him.”

Baba Ji then said, “All right, send him back; but first take him around for about ten minutes, not more.” They made me change into clothes worn in that region, but before they sent me back that fellow made me change into my own clothes again, and took all the other clothes away.

Then he said, “There is your body lying over there, get back into it.”

I said, “Dear friend, I don't want to get back into it, it is so smelly.”

“But this is your own body and you must use it now,” he replied.

“Yes, yes, I know it’s mine,” I protested, “but it smells so bad and I don’t want to go.”

Well, in spite of my protests I just had to get back into my body, and as I was about to leave, this fellow pointed to the shoes I was still wearing. He remonstrated, “Why are you taking the shoes from here with you?”

I replied, “Oh, my friend, I have kept them on because I feel at least I should have something to show the sangat.” He took them off, and made me go back. The next thing I knew was that I was back in my physical body and my eyes were open.

An Earthenware Pot That Kept On Giving

One day, Baba Ji was out walking in his village and he met a Muslim blacksmith. He asked him, “Are you able to make a living?”

The man replied, “Some days I have enough to live on. Other days I earn nothing.”

They stopped at the man's house and then Baba Ji said, “Do you have an earthenware pot? He said he had. Babaji then asked, “Do you have any flour? The man said there was none in the house at the moment. “Well, do you have a cover for the pot?” As the man said he had, someone was sent to get some flour and Baba Ji himself placed it in the pot. Then he said, “Keep this pot covered in a dark place and it will give you all the flour you need.” The pot did give flour in as much quantity as was required by this Muslim family right up to the time that in the hurry to escape, he left the pot behind.

The satsangis of the village used to show the pot to everybody, but after this, the blessing of Baba Ji was withdrawn; it gave forth no more flour.

Ingredients of a Living Spiritual Path -- Seven Gnostic-Sant Mat Parallels

Ingredients of a Living Spiritual Path -- Seven Gnostic-Sant Mat Parallels

In the Corpus Hermeticum and Nag Hammadi scriptures are/were described all of the ingredients of a living, viable mystical path:

1) living masters/teachers with students (past masters, scrolls, cuneiform tablets or old scriptures are not enough; a living guide is required);

2) a cosmology of several heavens/inner regions/planes/spheres;

3) an understanding that souls can access these realms here and now during this present life (a present-tense Kingdom of Heaven available to souls right now, not a spirituality postponed till some magical date on a calendar or hypothesized future age);

4) an initiation into the mysteries of the heavens, imparting to spiritual seekers the meditation techniques and sacred names;

5) visionary and auditory #mysticism (inner Light and Sound, spiritual seeing and hearing) -- descriptions of souls traveling within through various inner regions;

6) they have an ethical code, and this ethical foundation includes a vegetarian/vegan diet, then and now;

7) The Goal of the teachings and meditation practice is experiencing direct union with God.

The Mystic Traveler Transcends the Universe (Ocean of Samsara) Through Meditation

The Mystic Traveler Transcends the Universe (Ocean of Samsara) Through Meditation

"Association with a true Master [Satguru] is a prerequisite for the attainment of true spirituality (Parmarth). If the Sant Satguru is not met with, one may also achieve one's object by associating with a loving and devoted satsangi (initiate, disciple, representative of the Satguru) who has himself associated with him, is engaged in spiritual (Parmarthi) pursuits and is chosen of the Supreme Being Radhasoami Dayal [Compassionate Lord of the Soul], i.e., who is the recipient of his grace and mercy. When a sincere seeker learns the secrets and methods of practice from that satsangi and commences meditation practice (Abhyas), Radhasoami Dayal will take him under His protection and augment his love and faith by giving him palpable (perceptible, incontrovertible) help internally and externally." (Huzur Maharaj Rai Saligram)

"Raise your Surat [attention faculty of the soul] to higher regions where Dhun [the inner Sound] is audible all the time.

"Then you will make your human life truly fruitful and you will find rest and peace in Shabd [the Inner Sound and Light, Surat Shabd Yoga].

"The drum of breath is beating perpetually as a warning to eventual departure from here.

"Radhasoami has made available a boat. Get across the ocean of the universe free of any charge."

-- Soamiji Maharaj, Sar Bachan Radhasoami Poetry, Volume One

PODCAST: The Mandaean Gnostic Scriptures and NDE's -- Spiritual Awakening Radio

PODCAST: The Mandaean Gnostic Scriptures and NDE's -- Spiritual Awakening Radio

MandaeanBookMan

PODCAST: The Mandaean Gnostic Scriptures and NDE's (Near-Death Experiences) -- Spiritual Awakening Radio With James Bean -- Listen @ Youtube:

Image: Ancient Mandaean art from Iraq, the Mandaean book-man illustrating that the scriptures are within, and to know thyself is true wisdom.

Some Mandaeans (literally, "possessors of secret Knowledge") live in Iraqi cities like Baghdad and Basra. There's a large Mandaean population that resides in smaller market towns and villages of the marshland in southern Iraq, and near the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. Iran also has a Mandaean population; many of them dwell along the river Karun in Rhuzistan province. These days, many Mandaeans are relocating to western countries.

The Prophet Mohammed called them "Sabians," i.e. "Baptists or baptizers," a name which occurs in the Quran and which enabled them to continue under Islam. Islam also categorized them as "a people of the book," a religion that possesses their own ancient scriptures. Another factor that has traditionally enabled them to operate in the Islamic world is their affiliation with John the Baptist. John the Baptist is one of their greatest prophets.

Though the historic connection between John and the Mandaeans is hard to verify, it is indeed possible they are descendants of disciples of John the Baptist, who 2,000 years ago had a large number of followers which believed him to be a great Master and Prophet, if not the awaited Messiah. After John's death, the New Testament portrays Jesus as being the spiritual successor, but other leaders in John's community might have seen things differently. Like Jesus, others might also have claimed to be John's successor and thus would have become the leaders of a John-community that maintained its independence from the Jesus Movement, instead remaining what they were -- an unorthodox baptismal sect of the Trans-Jordan.

According to scholars of Mandaean studies like Werner Foerster, indeed the origins of the Mandaeans do go back to the Jewish tradition of first century AD Palestine and the region of the Jordan River. Foerster states in Gnosis II, published by Oxford University Press, that in the context of the Jewish war of independence and the consolidation of Orthodox Judaism after AD 70, "its position as a minority opposition evidently led to the persecution of the community and finally to its emigration from its native Jordan territory to the east, to begin with in Harran and the median hill country, then in the southern regions of Mesopotamia." Eventually the community settled in the region of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, where they could continue the ritual of baptizing initiates in "living waters" (rivers) symbolizing the connecting of their souls with "heavenly Jordan rivers of Light."

The role of the Heavenly Messenger is to give the mystic experience of light to souls and eventually guide them back up to the Place of Light, the Mandaean term for the highest heaven where the Great Life (God) resides.

The mystical encounters recorded in the scriptures of the Mandaeans may seem at times like ancient near-death experiences (NDE's), the visions of souls who were embraced by the Light long ago.

God is the Ocean of Love and All-Consciousness.

Starstuff Contemplating the Stars

Starstuff Contemplating the Stars -- Light and Sound on the Path -- Sant Mat Satsang

"We are the local embodiment of a Cosmos grown to self-awareness. We have begun to contemplate our origins: starstuff pondering the stars...." (Carl Sagan)

"O Soul (Surat)! Who are you and whence have you come? You are a ray from Purush (the Supreme Being) and an inhabitant of the purely Spiritual Region." (Swami Ji Maharaj/Sant Radhasoami Sahib)

"The teaching of the Saints is to raise the soul from the lower chakras to the higher chakras -- till it reaches the highest chakra, where it initially landed, and then reach the MASTER -- THE SUPREME SOUL, from where it initially parted. The path of upliftment is the same as that of descent, except that the movement is reverse, i.e., ascent in place of descent." (H.N. Saksena, The Secret of Realisation)

O Guru! May my consciousness ascend the sky.
Kindly help me catch the current of seven melodies and
the Quintessential One.
After allowing me to catch the support of your Radiant Being,
Let me have a glimpse of your highly resplendent Vision.
(Padavali of Maharshi Mehi)

"This world is perishable and so also is all that pertains to it. A wise man is he, who, having closely examined the nature of existence here, has realized that it is all transitory and illusory, and consecrated his human form by devoting himself to Bhajan and Simran (listening to inner sounds and repetition of the Holy Name of the Supreme Being) and who, taking the fullest advantage of the various faculties which the Supreme Father has graciously endowed him with, has translated the invaluable jewel within him, which is Surat (spirit) or the essence of his being, to its original abode." (Soami Ji Maharaj)

Day is Night - Night is Day

"Use all your power to free the senses from attachment and aversion alike, and live in the full wisdom of the Self. Such a sage awakes to Light in the night of all creatures. That which the world calls 'day' is the night of ignorance to the wise." (The Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 2, verses 68 and 69, Eknath Easwaran translation)

"That, which is night to all beings (who are turned away from God), in that state the disciplined Yogi keeps awake. And that in which all beings are awake (enjoying the worldly pleasures and prosperity), is night to the enlightened seer." (Bhagavad Gita 2: 69 from the online translation at IndiaDivine[dot]org)

"Only a perfect Master and Shabd
(Quintessial Unstruck Sound)
Are your two true friends.
Dedicate your heart to them
And discard everything else."
-- Sant Radhaswami Sahib

"When we receive initiation from a Saint, practice Naam simran to retrace our consciousness from toes to a spot behind the eyes [Third Eye Center], only then something is accomplished." (Baba Kehar Singh)

Sant Mat Meditation: "Those practitioners who assiduously practice meditation will behold wonderful spectacles within." (Swami Achyutanand)

"The support of the soul is in the head, and now I will tell you of the
recognition of Shabda. One who gets connected with the Unrepeated Repetition to see gets the infinite-petaled lotus. When he reaches the astral door, he [ultimately] goes to Agam and Agochar [by way of] the True Path. His inner Self-where Adi Purush resides-gets enlightened. Recognizing Him, the soul goes to Him -- and He takes the soul to its origin. The soul is of the same essence as Sat Purush and is also called Jiva-Sohang." (Anurag Sagar)

Quality of Concentration in Meditation: "Single-pointedness results in absolute concentration, which causes ascension (vertical rise) enabling one to move onto a higher level or stage. This way it would be possible to transcend all illusory sheaths [subtle bodies, astral, causal, etc...]." (Maharshi Mehi, The Way of Liberation)

Subtle Bodies Associated With Inner Regions
From the Article, Visions of Allah

The process of gaining a vision of paradise and mystic transport has been described as "stripping off old garments" and replacing them with a new heavenly robe made of Light. In his Persian Sufi classic, Divine Flashes, Fakhruddin 'Iraqi describes the process:

"When the Beloved would exalt the lover, He strips from him the garments collected from all the worlds, and clothes him in the robe of His own attributes. Then the Beloved calls him by all his own attributes. Then the Beloved calls him by all his own names, and seats him in his own place. When the lover studies his new clothes he finds himself arrayed in different colors, and will wonder 'what is this beautiful tint, this garment so unique?'"

This quote from Divine Flashes reminds me of Saying 37 in the Gospel of Thomas, one of the earliest collections of the sayings of Jesus.

His disciples said, "When will you appear to us, and when will we see you?" Jesus said, "When you strip without being ashamed, and you will take your cloths and put them under your feet like little children and trample them, then you will see the Son of the Living One and you will not be afraid." (The Complete Gospels, Robert J. Miller, Polebridge Press)

Sufism is a form of Islamic Gnosticism which really does have many affinities with earlier Gnostic mystical traditions of the middle east. Like other movements of the past that embrace spiritual experience and mystic transport through the Seven Heavens, Sufis have found it useful to compare out-of-body or ascension journeys to the stripping or shedding of garments. The above quote illustrates their view that each soul on the earth-plane is wearing several garments. We are souls wearing subtle bodies or coverings; our physical body is made out of the material substance of the physical universe. We are, as the late Dr. Carl Sagan put it, "star stuff pondering star stuff." Our bodies are made out of atoms that once came from stars and other objects in the cosmos. When we enter into contemplation and mystical states, our awareness is elsewhere; we become "dead to the world," have risen above body-consciousness.

In that sense, we have, for the duration of our meditation period, "stripped" ourselves of the garment of the body for the purpose of exploring other levels of our existence. The mystic traveler enters into what has been called "the fourth state of consciousness." In addition to the waking state, the dream state, the unconsciousness state of deep sleep, the truly holistic explorer can also integrate into his or her experience the spiritual worlds.

Mysticism teaches that there are many layers or levels of reality, that there are other garments that will eventually be shed during journeys of ascension. These garments or subtle bodies have been given names in Hebrew, Greek, Coptic, Syriac, Arabic, Persian, Hindi, and other languages. In addition to the "garment" of the physical body, each soul is wearing several other garments or bodies, other sheaths that surround the soul (the True Self), allowing the soul to connect to the various regions of creation. Counting the physical plane as Level One, Level Two is called by many "the astral plane," made of astral stuff -- astral substance, existing at a slightly higher vibration in the astral region. Level Three is the causal body, made of causal or akashic substance, inhabiting the causal plane. Level Four is the mental body made of mind substance, and is part of the mental plane. The etheric body allows the soul to access that region. Above these worlds of mind and matter, the soul resides in the Timeless Spiritual Realm of Truth (Sat, Haq). Metaphysically speaking, we're already in heaven, we just don't know it! 'Iraqi says:

"By day I praised you but never knew it; by night slept with you without realizing; fancying myself to be myself; but no, I was you and never knew it!"

"From the Source of the Ocean opens a Window of Light. Awaken that resplendent Light within thee....Repeat the name of the Lord and secure Him." (Shabdavali of Param Sant Tulsi Sahib of Hathras)

"Moment by moment gather thy soul and hold it at the Eye Center. Cleanse thou the mirror of thy mind, and catch the Divine Melody with thy soul. If thy longing is keen, thou shalt pierce the veil and attain the Quintessence." (Shabdavali of Param Sant Tulsi Sahib of Hathras)

"Within thine own self, behold the splendor of thy Beloved. In the pupil of thine eye is a mole, wherein is hidden the entire mystery. Peep within and behold thou what lieth beyond this dark curtain. The secret of the fourteen realms will, for certain, be disclosed to thee. Let thy attention not slip, see that thou art ever vigilant." (Shabdavali of Sant Tulsi Sahib of Hathras)

"I beheld in the firmament an inverted well, and was filled with resplendence of Light within." (Shabdavali of Sant Tulsi Sahib of Hathras)

Tulsi Sahib: "The disciple sees within himself the Akash (sky) which is like an inverted well, and merges his Surat [soul's attention] in it."

Chart of the Inner Regions: The Top-most Region is Anami (Nameless), Soundless (Anadi), Nirguna (Formless), Radhasoami -- The Lord of the Soul.

Surat Shabd Yoga: Surat refers to spirit and Shabd to the Sound Current; hence, it is the union the soul with Shabd; the spiritual exercise by which the Current of Consciousness is applied to the hearing of the Sound within; joining the mind and the Attention to the Sound Current. Surat Shabd Yoga: Union (Yoga) of the Soul (Surat) with the Inner Light and Sound of God (Shabd).

The Satguru: "When all the thought waves merge into the Divine Sound, they become Sound. There are no more thoughts. Only Word remains. The surati and Shabda cannot then be differentiated. When the surati unites with Shabda, it is just as when water mixes with milk and become one. Surati gives up its own identity and merges into the Word. Although surati and Shabda appear different, they are not really separate. Once the union has occurred, and the thought waves are silenced, bliss is experienced. When the waters of two rivers such as the Ganges and the Yamuna unite at Prayag, one cannot differentiate the waters, just so, when surati and Shabda unite, they are indistinguishable. However, for this to occur one has to meditate before that Oneness can be realized." (Prakash Mani Naam)

"When the soul (surat) mergeth into the Sound (Shabd) and becometh one with it, then one obtaineth the supreme Bliss. The lamp burneth inside, O Ravidas, and Divine Bliss ariseth within. Steeped in meditation with one-pointed attention, practice devotion to God, O Ravidas. Let the automatic repetition be continued within, Reverberating the True Naam." (Sant Ravidas)

"The divine Melody resounds within,
Upon hearing it, the mind rejoices!
And at long last, attains self-realization,
Never again to stray,
From devotion to the Eternal Teacher.
All its sufferings dissipate.
The soul grasps the rope of divine Melody,
And climbs upon it to liberation."
(Kabir, Songs of the Divine," Dr. J. Das)

Tulsi Sahib said: "When the Surat-disciple meets the Shabd-guru, the path will be traversed."

"The Divine Melody is always resounding when one becomes attuned to it through diligent meditation practice." (Brahm Nirupan of Kabir)

"I now daily hear Shabd in this mansion (of the body, Pind). All the time, I am engaged in this practice." (Swami Ji Maharaj)

"As long as the soul remains in the body, O brother, practice the Path of Shabda." (Anurag Sagar)

"Get detached from the world by associating with Shabd. Shabd removes the barriers." (Swami Ji Maharaj)

"Shabd alone can eradicate Karmas. Without Shabd, we are wandering homeless." (Swami Ji Maharaj)

"Saint Kabir says that our movement is that of a bird (represented by the Shabd); and that the Satguru has given us the key. With the resounding of Shabd, the doors have been flung open, that this Desh [realm] beyond Pind and And [the physical and astral] is ours." (from a hymn of Kabir quoted in, The Secret of Realisation, H.N. Saksena)

I fly as a bird, my wings the Word,
Saith Kabir I'm free, my Satguru liberates me.
My consciousness awoke
Only the Word did resound,
And then beyond the Pind and And,
my true home I
found. (Kabir, another translation of the verse above)

"The body is divided into four regions. These are the Pind or Pinda, the physical or material body; the And or Anda, the lowest part of Brahmand, the spiritual-material region; Brahmand, the spiritual-material region, which is mostly spiritual but mixed with a certain amount of refined matter; and Sach Khand, which is absolutely pure Spirit, the highest and only perfectly pure region. Sach Khand is also the only permanent region." (Huzur Baba Sawan Singh)

Go to heaven --
why go back to the world?
In the house of the fearless One,
where music, unstruck, sounds,
you shall play trumpets.

Meditate upon Him in your heart.
Without meditation there is no salvation.

Unfettered meditation
brings salvation:
Your heavy load is taken off.
Welcome Him in your heart,
so you will not be born
again and again.

Blissful meditation
will light a lamp inside you
that does not need any oil.
This lamp will make you immortal;
this lamp will draw out the poison
of lust and anger.

Pierce this meditation
that gives you salvation,
and wear it around your neck.
Never take it off.
Meditate always:
Your guru's grace will get you across.

Meditation will free you
from dependence on others:
You will sleep on silken sheets at home.
Your heart will be at peace;
your life will blossom:
Deeply drink this meditation.

This meditation
will erase your blemishes;
you will be free from Maya's touch.
Meditate, meditate, and sing,
"Hari, Hari" [God, God]. You will obtain
this meditation from your true guru [Satguru].

Always, always meditate day and night:
When you rise, when you lie down,
when you breathe in, when you breathe out.
Waking or sleeping,
relish the taste of meditation --
meditation will bring union.

Meditation will remove all your burdens;
meditation upon Ram's name [God's name]
will become your support.
Kabir, says, "He is limitless."
(Songs of Kabir from the Adi Granth, Nirmal Das, SUNY Press, NY)
