Gnostic Christian Psalms Discovered! How the Odes Became a Lost Book of the Bible - Spiritual Awakening Radio Podcast

Gnostic Christian Psalms Discovered! The Book of the Odes + How the Odes Became a Lost Book of the Bible - Spiritual Awakening Radio Podcast

It's as-if those who composed the Gospel of John decided to create a hymnbook. This is about the little-known discovery of a collection of early Christian psalms called, The Book of the Odes, written in Syriac-Aramaic, described by scholars as "some of the most beautiful songs of peace and joy that the world possesses." The Odes got mislabeled, misfiled, misunderstood, misplaced somewhere along the way becoming one of those Lost Books of the Bible. Time to explore this would-be book of New Testament psalms and that is finally gaining long overdue recognition and popularity in the 21st Century. This is one of two podcasts I've devoted to this inspiring collection of mystic-poems and music -- The Odes of Solomon -- once viewed as a sacred text by Jewish Christians, Syriac Eastern Christianity, various Gnostic movements -- it's quoted in Pistis Sophia -- and other early Christian writings.

Odes of Solomon, Lost Psalms of Early Christianity Discovered - Spiritual Awakening Radio Podcasts

Odes of Solomon, Lost Psalms of Early Christianity Discovered

“I extended my hands and hallowed my Lord,

For the expansion of my hands is His sign.

And my extension is the upright cross.

Hallelujah.” (Ode 27)

Out of all the apocryphal writings I've collected, I think the Odes of Solomon is the most beautiful, inspiring and inspired, the greatest scripture of the Jesus movement. It is the would-be book of New Testament psalms! The Book of the Odes has been described as the first known hymn-book of early Christianity. They have nothing to do with "Solomon" but somewhere-along-the-way got mislabeled and assigned to the genre of Old Testament Apocrypha as the Odes represent one of the earliest of Christian documents near the beginning of the Jesus movement within Judaism and so composed before a time when there were many Jewish or Christian writings associated with a "new" covenant, and long before the concept of a New Testament canon or collection of scriptures was conceived of. Thus, this collection of psalms was named in a way that's reminiscent of how some scriptures were assigned names during the time of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the pseudepigraphical literature. This indicates a very early date of composition.

For me the Odes, as well as another collection of mystic poems called, Metaphysical Meditations, by Paramahansa Yogananda, during my formative years as a spiritual seeker proved to be quite influential. They also gave me a preview of the type of literature I would eventually be introduced to: the Adi Granth (Sikh Scriptures) and various collections of bhakti mystic poetry of the Sants of India: Kabir, Dadu, Namdev, Paltu, Tulsi Sahib, Soamiji Maharaj, and many others.

I know a thousand Rumis the world needs to hear,

to be soothed by the Voice of the Soul

that speaks through them all.

Hafiz, Shams, Sarmad, Kabir, Mira Bai, Sahajo Bai,

Rabia, Tukaram, Hazrat Sultan Bahu, Baba Farid,

Nanak, Tulsi Sahib, Surdas, Dariya Sahib,

Dharam Das, Namdev, Ravidas, Paltu —

countless are the lovers of the Beloved.

The Odes of Solomon consist of 41 psalms. The Odes are believed to have originated in either Antioch or Edessa in Syriac-Aramaic most likely during the First Century AD.

One scholar (James Charlesworth) said of the Odes, "Here are some of the most beautiful songs of peace and joy that the world possesses."

The New Testament scholar Bentley Layton says that the Odes were considered to be inspired scripture and were chanted by Christians who lived in Syria and all around Mesopotamia about 2,000 years ago.

J. Rendel Harris, the discoverer of one Syriac-Aramaic manuscript of the Odes, said the Odes were eventually included in the Sahidic Bible of Egypt.

These ecstatic hymns remind me of Rumi or Sufi love poetry in the tradition of "the lover and the Beloved." They also remind me of the Sikh scriptures (Adi Granth) and mystic poetry of the Sants. Many have adopted the practice of contemplating verses of the Odes and report being brought to a deeper level of devotion (bhakti); being caught up in a love-affair with God, the Ocean of Love. That's also been my experience.

ODE 12: Through the Word (Logos)... Worlds Converse!

"He filled me with words of truth

that I may speak the same.

Like the flow of waters truth flows from my mouth,

and my lips reveal its harvest,

and it gives me the gold of knowledge

for the mouth of the Lord is the true Word

and the Door of His Light.

And the Highest One gave the Word to His worlds,

which interpret His own beauty,

recite His praise,

confess His thought,

are heralds of His mind,

are instructors of His works.

For the swiftness of the Word is ineffable

and like His statement are Its swiftness and sharpness.

Its course knows no end,

It never fails, it stands.

Its descent and Its way are incomprehensible.

Like His work is Its end

for It is the Light and the dawn of thought,

and through It worlds converse...

The mouth of the Highest One spoke to them

and he was made clear by His Word.

The dwelling place of the Word is man

and Its truth is love."

"Contend earnestly for the faith once delivered to the Saints." (from the Book of Jude)

The Septuagint Greek translation of the Jewish scriptures, made for the Library of Alexandria, was literally "The Bible" of early Christianity, and it included several additional texts (Apocrypha) not found in other Bibles. A translation of it in contemporary English has been published.

Aramaic Was the Language of the Original Jesus Movement: There are impressive Aramaic-Syriac manuscripts of the New Testament that have been translated into English, and even older Aramaic-Syriac manuscripts of the four gospels. Discover the Peshitta, and the Old Syriac Gospels (Evangelion da-Mepharreshe) from Codex Sinaiticus.

Divine Light in the Dead Sea Scrolls: We next turn our attention to the Dead Sea Scroll discovery of Qumran, and hear selections of hymns (psalms) composed by the enigmatic prophet, who was the founder of this community in antiquity, known only as "The Teacher of Righteousness". Also mentioned is the Book of First Enoch, quoted by Jude in the New Testament, and a popular text at Qumran.

The Psalms of Early Christianity Are Back: The book where the Messiah perhaps for the first time begins to materialize, makes his first literary appearance in the first century A.D., is the Book of the Odes. This mysterious collection of ancient hymns written in Syriac, a dialect of the Aramaic language, has been described as "some of the most beautiful songs of peace and joy that the world possesses." These mystical poems and prayers remind me of Rumi and other Sufi poets. Sometimes I refer to the Odes as 'the would-be book of New Testament psalms', and I find the Odes to be a very spiritual book, one of the finest examples of a "lost book of the Bible" that got misnamed, misfiled and misplaced somewhere along the way. And, yes, it was viewed to be scripture in some places, such as Asia Minor, Syria/Mesopotamia and Egypt.

The Author of the Gospel of Luke Said "Many" Had Already Composed Gospels Before He Wrote His: We learn about Sayings Gospel Q, a collection of the sayings of Jesus. Quotes from it were included in several early Christian gospels. We also explore a translation containing over twenty gospels and surviving fragments of gospels from the early centuries A.D.

The Gospel of Thomas, A Wisdom Gospel or Gospel For Contemplative Mystics Seeking A Present-Tense Kingdom of God Here and Now: The Gospel of Didymus Jude Thomas the Twin, a collection of the sayings of Jesus, went missing for almost two millennia until three copies of it were almost miraculously discovered several decades ago: two sections of it written in Greek found at Oxyrhynchus, Egypt, and a more complete edition in the Coptic language discovered near a monastery not far from Nag Hammadi in Upper Egypt buried under the sands of time in a clay storage jar. This important lost book has been found again. Practically predicting it’s own rediscovery the book of Thomas says: "Know what is before your face, and what is hidden from you will be revealed to you. For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor anything buried which will not be raised." (Saying Five) Also mentioned is the possible inclusion in the Gospel of Thomas of a few sayings of Yeshua from another early Christian scripture known as the Gospel of the Hebrews.

If You Don't Want Your Saints and Mystics, We'll Tak'em! In the West, they might not be known, are not usually quoted, and their names are never spoken. Today we remember a few of the "orphan" saints and "homeless" mystics of Christianity, including those from the almost unknown community called "The Church of the East". Shared are excerpts from the out-of-this-world prayers of Joseph the Visionary.

This Spiritual Awakening Radio podcast includes a list of recommended reading: translations of the scriptures referring to above, anthologies of apocryphal writings, and also mentioned is the book, Disciples, by Keith Akers, a scholarly, rather thorough and impressive documentation of the vegetarianism of the Jesus Movement (Ebionites or Hebrew Christians).

Background on the Origins and Discovery of the Nag Hammadi Library and Other Gnostic Gospels of Egypt; Wisdom from Wisdom Gospels; also, the Seven Ingredients of a Living Spiritual Path

The History of the Destruction of Wisdom

Muhammad ‘Ali al-Samman’s mother would often grab a few pages of Coptic texts to use them for kindling in the morning to light the family woodstove and make tea, perhaps do some cooking also. No doubt it was very nice tea, brewed thanks to the sacrifice of a few pages of unknown and lost Nag Hammadi pages, perhaps from the Gospel of Mary or lost book of Third Allogenes! The misplacing, forgetting, and random destruction of wisdom is all very much part of the story of Gnosticism on planet earth. But perhaps we can remain hopeful like the author of the Gospel of Thomas: "Know what is before your face, and what is hidden from you will be revealed to you. For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor anything buried which will not be raised." (Saying Five of Greek Thomas)

Meditation

Would you look at that! This passage from the Acts of Peter provides a great description of meditation practice: "Give ear; withdraw your souls from all that appears but is not truly real; close these eyes if yours, close your ears, withdraw from actions that are outwardly seen; and you shall know the reality of Christ and the whole secret of your salvation."

"Look at God within yourself, how 'God is Light.' For his Nature is a glorious, many-splendored Light. He manifests the Light of his Nature to those who love Him in all the worlds…" (John of Dalyatha, Syriac Mystic)

Podcast: The Gnostic Gospels of Nag Hammadi, An Inclusive Rather Than Exclusive Spirituality -- Spiritual Awakening Radio

Podcast: The Gnostic Gospels of Nag Hammadi, An Inclusive Rather Than Exclusive Spirituality

In December 1945 a collection of ancient scriptures -- fifty-two books -- was unearthed near the village of Nag Hammadi in Egypt. These texts had been placed in a clay storage jar, sealed, and buried sometime during the Fourth Century AD. Monks who lived at a nearby monastery founded by Saint Pachomius most likely hid them there at the time. They would have been sacred texts once part of the library of this monastic community, one of several Pachomian monasteries operating in Egypt during those days.

Rather than confining themselves to only reading the Old and New Testaments or teachings exclusively from Orthodox Christian sources, these monks had a surprisingly diverse collection of writings that can only be characterized as inter-faith and multi-traditional. In other words, they were also studying the scriptures of other teachers, sages, religions and “cousin” esoteric mystical movements of their day.

“And there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed. There is nothing buried that will not be raised!” (Saying of Jesus, Greek Gospel of Thomas)

Below Are NOTES About Today's PODCAST (6-2-19):

The Books of First Enoch, Second Enoch, and Third Enoch ONLINE:

Behold, the scripture about Enoch the prophet, who communed with God and, while alive, soul traveled through the heavens, hearing heavenly sounds, seeing heavenly lights, colors, encountering many beings and visions. The Enochian literature represents some of the earliest scriptures of humanity articulating the off-world concept of soul travel, that human beings while alive can explore various heavenly realms, that indeed, it's is part of our spiritual journey that we do experience such visions, that this is intended to be the norm... part of our heritage, a paradise lost that can easily be found again... a mystical journey back to eden we're all invited to take.

As it says of Adam in the Garden of Eden existing, not physically in this realm, but in the Third Plane called Paradise, one of the inner regions of consciousness:

"I made the heavens open to him, that he
should hear the angels singing the song of
victory, and see the bright, radiant Light."

The Case for the Book of Enoch as Scripture

1) Enoch and the Dead Sea Scrolls: The book of First Enoch was part of the Dead Sea Scrolls Bible -- the Essene Library of Qumran in Israel. First Enoch was included amongst the Dead Sea Scrolls, in fact was one of the most widely read holy books at Qumran (400 BC -- 70 AD). This observation is based upon the large number of Aramaic Enoch fragments that have been found there. Many Jews were studying Enoch before and during the time of Jesus.

2) Jude Quoted Enoch in the New Testament: The author of the Book of Jude quoted First Enoch in his New Testament epistle (letter), a great canonical endorsement for the Book of Enoch by the Original Jesus Movement. The Bibles that bare the most resemblance to the Scriptures of Jude and the Original Aramaic-speaking Christians is the Ethiopian Bible, as well as the Dead Sea Scrolls-Essene-Qumran Bible. Jude not only quotes from Enoch, but also from the Assumption of Moses. Both Enoch and Assumption of Moses were recognized as Scripture by the Essenes; see more on the Ethiopian Bible below. In addition to Jude, Biblical scholars also have noticed many parallel verses and shared ideas between the New Testament and Book of Enoch, illustrating how influential the Book of Enoch was on Jesus, the authors of the Gospels and other New Testament books. The Book of First Enoch is an important key foundational text of early Christianity.

3) The early Church father Tertullian Referred to Enoch as "Scripture": The Early Church father Tertullian quotes passages from the Book of Enoch, referring to these passages as "Scripture". The Epistle of Jude (verse 14) is also appealed to by Tertullian as a testimonial to the authority of Enoch. (see, De cultu feminarum. 1.3)

Tertullian's canon of the Old Testament included the deuterocanonical books, since he quotes most of them. He also cites the Book of Enoch as inspired, and thinks those who wanted to remove it were wrong. (Tertullian.org)

Barnabus, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Origin and Clement of Alexandria were also fans of Enoch: The Book of Enoch was extant centuries before the birth of Christ and yet is considered by many to be more Christian in its theology than Jewish. It was considered Scripture by many early Christians. The earliest literature of the "Church fathers" is filled with references to this mysterious book. Second and Third Century "Church fathers" like Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Origin and Clement of Alexandria all make use of the Book of Enoch. Tertullian (160-230 C.E) even called the Book of Enoch "Holy Scripture". The Ethiopic Church included the Book of Enoch as part of their official canon of the Bible. (Wikipedia Entry About the Books of Enoch)

4) The Epistle or Letter of Barnabas: Like some other major leaders, Barnabas quoted from Enoch, even using the term "Scripture" to describe Enochian passages. See, the Epistle of Barnabas, translated in the book Early Christian Writings -- The Apostolic Fathers, published by Penguin Classics.

5) Enoch is in the Bible: The ETHIOPIAN BIBLE INCLUDES THE BOOKS OF FIRST AND SECOND ENOCH: The Ethiopian Bible contains the books of Enoch (and several other surprising books once banned and thought to be forever lost), thus preserving this earlier understanding dating back to the time of the Dead Sea Scrolls and New Testament that viewed Enoch to be an inspired sacred text.

Professor Steven Davies has written some valuable observations about the "Primordial Light" mysticism of the Gospel of Thomas:

The Sermon on the Light by Jesus — Also, The Light Motif in Gnostic and Other Western Sacred Texts: https://medium.com/sant-mat-meditation-and-spirituality/7dc3199d64bf

The sayings attributed to Jesus but uniquely associated with the Gospel of Thomas tradition also were also quoted far and wide in other early Christian writings. An impressive book documenting the transmission of these “Thomasonian” parallel sayings of Jesus is: Extracanonical Sayings of Jesus, by William D. Gnostic — Sant Mat Comparative Mysticism: An Inclusive Rather Than Exclusive Spirituality — Kirpal Singh and the Lesson of Nag Hammadi — Rather than confining themselves to only reading the Old and New Testaments or teachings exclusively from Orthodox Christian sources, these monks of Nag Hammadi had a surprisingly diverse collection of writings that can only be characterized as inter-faith and multi-traditional. In other words, they were also studying the scriptures of other religions and mystical movements of their day….. Kirpal Singh was a prolific writer, publishing scores of books over the years, quoting from most every world scripture, mystic, poet, philosopher, and great Master that has ever existed spanning the centuries, very much embodying this same curiosity and inclusive universal spirituality we find present in the Nag Hammadi Library of Egypt. May the legacy of both always be remembered and honored for all time to come — Document at Scribd.com: http://www.scribd.com/doc/113687715/An-Inclusive-Rather-Than-Exclusive-Spirituality-Kirpal-Singh-and-the-Lesson-of-Nag-Hammadi

Mary Magdalene Studies

The Jesus and Mary Magdalene and Other Icon Images: Monastery of Lady Mary: “Located in the area of the Northern Cemetery, the Monastery of Lady Mary was uncovered in 1930 as archaeologists sought to excavate tombs. Inscribed mosaics in the building provide the name of the founder of the monastery, Lady Mary, and suggest that the building was erected around 567 CE.”: https://beth-shean.squarespace.com/monastery-of-lady-mary

Time, Memory, and Mosaics at the Monastery of Lady Mary, by Stephanie Hagan: “Late Antique Beth Shean provides ample evidence of a religiously heterogeneous population. Even as Christianity was becoming established as the dominant faith, we find traces of cultural and artistic exchanges with other religious groups. The floor mosaics of a 6th century monastery find their best comparisons with synagogue pavements, raising the possibility that the same artisans may have worked for both Christian and Jewish patrons.”: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/534849e8e4b0dd67a1620643/t/5367f91ee4b0d6ad53928b32/1399322910039/Hagan2.pdf

Manichaean Traditions

The Gnostic Mystery — A Connection Between Ancient and Modern Mysticism — some Gnostic-Sant Mat comparative mysticism, by Andrea Diem Lane: The most comparable strand of Indian spirituality to the Gnostic tradition is the medieval and modem Sant tradition, an eclectic philosophy concerned with traversing spiritual realms to reach God. Resembling Gnostic metaphysics, there is a God beyond all gods, and this God invites the soul to know It. One achieves God-Realization by turning within one’s own consciousness, realizing the microcosm/macrocosm relationship with the Divine. A Sant is one who has accomplished this — an enlightened soul:

Sophia's Passion: Sant Mat and the Gnostic
Myth of Creation, by Neil Tessler:

Science of the Soul Books:

The Mystic Heart of Judaism, by Miriam Bokser Caravella: Speaking to the renewal of mystic fervour among seekers today, the book studies the spiritual masters of Jewish history whose teachings have brought inspiration and solace to generations of Jews from the prophets of the Bible and mystics of antiquity, to the Sufis and kabbalists of the Middle Ages, and the Hasidic masters of Eastern Europe. It presents the living teachers and their living teachings, their inner spiritual life with the divine, and their relationship of love with their disciples;

The Holy Name, by Miriam Bokser Caravella: This book presents a mosaic of mystical elements that are common to both Judaism and the Sant Mat philosophy. Quotations are brought from Jewish sources such as the Bible, the Zohar, other Kabbalistic works, Hasidic literature, and contemporary Jewish writings, as well as from Christian mystics and the writings of spiritual masters of India, Persia and Arabia. There are thorough discussions of the Garden of Eden and other stories from the Bible, the inner regions and the kabbalistic doctrine of the sefirot and the Word or Name of God;

The Gospel Of Jesus, In Search of His Original Teachings, by John Davidson: The Gospel of Jesus is an inspirational encounter with the world of Christ, an uplifting study of the man, his times and his teaching. It reveals how the true meaning of Jesus’s teachings, as found in the canonical gospels and many of the ancient apocryphal and other early Christian texts, is that of the ageless, eternal and mystical path to God;

Also by John Davidson, Science of the Soul Books:

The Prodigal Soul (formally known as, The Robe of Glory): This inspirational collection of allegories and anecdotes includes seven parables of Jesus (with two little–unknown ones from the ‘fifth’ gospel, the Gospel of Thomas), an allegorical interpretation of the Adam and Eve story, and others of a gnostic character from Manichaean and Mandaean sources, the Nag Hammadi library, and New Testament apocryphal writings. Included among them is the well-known Robe of Glory;

The Odes of Solomon: An inspiring collection of early Christian devotional poems, as vibrant as the day they were written. Lost for nineteen hundred years, but rediscovered by Cambridge biblical scholar, Rendel Harris;

The Divine Romance: In The Divine Romance: John Davidson shows how these ancient and intriguing tales depict a universal spirituality — the path to divine union. This, the story of the soul’s descent and its subsequent return, is told in terms of the divine marriage. The collection includes two parables of Jesus, with interpretations suggested by gnostic texts, and two gnostic parables — one from the Nag Hammadi library, the other from the Acts of Thomas. The rambunctious early Christian classic, Joseph and Aseneth, a tale that has circulated in various forms over the last 2,000 years, concludes this luminous book;

The Song of Songs: On the face of it, the biblical Song of Songs tells the tale of a passionate and worldly love. Yet, though it contains not one word that speaks explicitly of God or spirituality, the Song was accepted long ago into both the Jewish and Christian scriptural canons. In this inspiring book, John Davidson brings out the spiritual meaning of one of the most intriguing books in the Bible;

A Treasury of Mystic Terms I (Set of 6 Volumes): The Treasury is a collection of the spiritual terms found in the literature of the world’s religious and mystical traditions. Its primary objective is to elucidate the meaning of the essential terms used by the various spiritual and religious traditions of the world throughout history;

A Treasury of Mystic Terms II (Set of 4 Volumes): It is not primarily intended as a dictionary or as an encyclopedia, nor is it a definitive treatise on any particular subject or religion. It is meant to help the ordinary person understand some of the basic principles of his or her religious background, within the framework of a universal understanding of spirituality;

Adventure of Faith: The author of this book recounts how she, a devout Christian, found the path of the Masters. The reader travels with the author from her childhood days in pre-war Germany to her life as a Benedictine nun and the years spent as a Catholic nun in a Hindu ashram in central India. When she discovered the inner path of Surat Shabd Yoga, she realized she needed a spiritual Master;

Yoga and the Bible, by Joseph Leeming: Written from a predominantly Christian point of view, this book introduces Surat Shabd Yoga, the yoga of the sound current, citing well-known passages from Jesus Christ as the basis of each chapter’s discussion. The author discusses the importance of the living spiritual master in the context of Sant Mat and the teachings of Christ;

GOD POWER, CHRIST POWER, MASTER POWER, by Kirpal Singh: The Christ-Power or God-Power or Guru-Power is the same, and manifests Itself at the human pole to meet the demands of His children: those who feel hungry for Him, those who feel thirsty for Him. There is food for the hungry and water for the thirsty; demand and supply is the law of nature, and where fire burns, oxygen comes to help. When man has hunger for God in his heart, God manifests Himself at some human pole to guide the child-humanity. “No man knows the Father except through the Son and he to whom the Son reveals Him.” http://ruhanisatsangusa.org/godpower.htm

The Stranger of Galilee, by Russell Perkins:

https://issuu.com/santajaibsinghsatsang/docs/stranger_of_galilee__russell_perkin

The Stranger of Galilee, by Russell Perkins — The Master comes down to love, and he says that all human beings come down to love; this is the role of the human and it is how humanness is defined. As we have seen, the Urdu word insan is normally translated as “human being,” but in fact means “one who is brimming over with love.” That is the essence of humanness. The Masters say that the capacity for empathy is what distinguishes humans from other forms of life: we can love each other. We can also manipulate, use, and exploit each other, but that is not what makes us human; only our capacity to love does that. The most human of all persons is the Master; he is what we and all other human beings were born to be. Our emphasis on understanding him as a God-man sometimes leads us to see him more as God than as man, and that is a legitimate view; but we should never forget to view him also as a role model for humans. He has reversed the fall and thus he is what we would all be if we had not fallen:

Bentley Layton has a section dedicated to the School of Saint Thomas in the Syriac east all about the Thomasine writings: The Gnostic Scriptures: A New Translation with Annotations and Introductions, by Bentley Layton:

A Relationship Between the Gospel of Thomas and the Gospel of the Hebrews

“It seems that, in constructing his ‘harmony’ [Diatessaron], he [Tatian] used not just the ‘canonical’ Gospels, but also a ‘fifth source’, whose material sometimes agreed with readings proper to texts like the Gospel to the Hebrews or the Gospel of Thomas. It has been proposed to identify this source with that Aramaic tradition of Palestinian origin, independent of the Greek Gospels, that had first conveyed a knowledge of Jesus to the peoples of Syria, pivoting, to begin with, on the region’s Jewish communities. Certainly, West Aramaic expressions or, more generally, elements left a deep mark not just and perhaps not so much on the Peshitta as on the more general exegetical and ‘spiritual’ meditation of the Churches of Syria, as many recent studies have demonstrated (cf. e.g. S. Brock, The Lost Old Syriac…).”

— Paolo Bettiolo, Syriac Literature, page 426: https://archive.org/details/SyriacLiterature

I wonder if the Gospel of Mary Magdalene should be on the same list, as it seems to have a relationship to the Gospel of Thomas sayings, including saying 114. https://www.earlychristianwritings.com/gospelmary.html
