Selections from Baba Somanath On Inner Light -- Light and Sound on the Path

Selections from Baba Somanath On Inner Light -- Light and Sound on the Path

Sant Mat Radhasoami Blog:

https://SantMatRadhasoami.blogspot.com

The darkness in the well of the world is driven away when the Self-Effulgent lamp of Knowledge sheds it light.

Make me repeat the Naam day and night.

And keep me steadfastly absorbed in contemplation on You.

Rivet my attention at the still point between the eyes,

And show me the Light of Spiritual knowledge.

Every day, dial the number of the Naam.

Do the contemplation and remembrance of Truth.

Between the two eyes, take a bath in the Immaculate Light.

Repeat the Simran of Naam, and behold the radiance of the Self-Existing Light.

Be like the moth that is spellbound by the light.

Somanath says, do the dhyan of the Guru, see the Truth with your own eyes.

In the blink of an eye Maya is destroyed, and the light (of the soul) merges into the Divine Light (of Shabd).

O Kindler of Light, in Your form resides all power and splendor.

You dwell beyond the physical, astral, and causal realms.

The Divine Guru is the radiant form of Light: He banishes all darkness.

Just like the moon rising in the night sky, He drives away the illusion of ignorance.

Ahead is the Light of the red rising sun, beholding it the soul is lost in delight.

The darkness of ignorance is dispelled and lightning flashes across the sky.

Somanath says, O Lord of the lowly, care for the ignorant ones.

Your Ray of Light banishes the darkness of ignorance.

You are All-Knowing, All-Wisdom, Ever-Existent,

Dwelling in the State of Blissful Natural Equipoise.

By the Grace of the Satguru, Somanath repeated the Naam and became intoxicated in Divine Bliss.

Maya was dispelled in the blink of an eye;

The dazzling light of the Guru’s lotus feet is shining like the sun and moon.

Then comes the realm of Par Brahm and the pool of Mansarovar [man-sa-rovar -- the Lake of Nectar]

Overflowing with the waters of radiant Light; here the stain of the mind is scrubbed clean, and the soul emerges immaculately pure.

The enshrouding veils are cast aside, and Pure Consciousness dawns.

The Sohang Shabd is perpetually resounding.

The darkness becomes radiant with dazzling light, and the snare of Maya is destroyed forever.

Then the soul enters the Realm of Sat Lok, the abode of the True Lord.

The light of millions of suns and moons rising together could not equal one hair on His body.

The strains of the veena (lute) fill the air, and the Truth of Truths is proclaimed.

The deepest mysteries that lie far beyond the Vedas, You proclaimed in utterance simple and clear.

You pulled the souls out from the deep, impassible ocean of existence,

and ferried them to the other shore.

O Kindler of the Inner Light, You are the Lord and Savior of all the world.

You are the victor over death who ferries the jiva-souls across the impassable realm of matter,

Omniscient Consciousness, Quintessence of Light,

Ineffable and beyond reckoning is Your state.

The mind cannot conceive of You; You are without beginning, without end.

O Protector of the lowly ones, most merciful Lord,

Self-Existent, Bestower of Light

Somanath has contemplated upon Your lotus feet.

Unceasingly, He will sing Your praises.

You free all the jiva-souls from the desires and afflictions of this world.

"Life is a progression. We progress from childhood to adulthood, from simplicity to complexity, from ignorance to knowledge, from innocence to wisdom and from birth to death. It is the law of life. But there is also a progression from the external life to the internal, from the hustle and bustle of material life to the serenity and silence of internal life. It is in the latter that we experience the beauty of the Self and its connection with Divinity. (Jagessar Das, New Book: Doctor by Chance, Mystic by Choice)

"The Master finished speaking and fell silent for a while. I felt the import of his words penetrate my entire being. I pledged myself to explore the universe of love, that universe that transcends time, space and causality. It is a universe which needs no spaceship for its conquest. It has riches undreamed of in the outer physical universe. The physical universe is a place of awe-inspiring beauty, and the mind of man is naturally inclined to plumb the wonders of its creation; but this outer universe is only the material robe of the Supreme Lord, who is all love. God has upheld His entire creation with the power of love, and the very soul of man is infused with this power. I have sojourned in the physical world for eons, and I have known the three states of slumber, dream and wakefulness. Now, through the grace of a living Master, I would attain the state of superconsciousness. I will be shown how to reassert my own true nature and thus walk upon the highway of love, the radiant way of return to my true home." (Pilgrimage Of James -- An Odyssey of Inner Space, by George Arnsby Jones, now an online book at The Internet Archive)

'In this labyrinth of existence we can become quite habituated into remaining as surface-dwellers living inundated by all the outward distractions that life on earth provides. We may ask of ourselves, “Am I availing myself of the spiritual direction and wisdom that comes from within?”

'Over the centuries contemplative souls have taught that the human body is a kind of temple, and that within this temple are portals that lead to other dimensions, that by looking within this microcosm we may access the macrocosm of the heavens.

'We are children of both worlds.
We human beings are a Tree of Life
with roots in the earth
and branches rising into a mystic sky.'

This is the last mailing via Yahoo Groups. Join for Free Groups.IO, the Replacement for what has been Yahoo Groups

Over the years so many of you have signed up with my various Yahoo groups and this has served as a great mailing list I've used occasionally to share spiritual quotes, blog entries or satsang radio podcast announcements. Recently, Yahoo announced that even the email listserv version of Yahoo Groups will soon be discontinued... as of December 15th, 2020. BUT, I've already created some groups at a wonderful free site that represents a great improvement over Yahoo. You're invited to join Groups.IO, the 2021 version of eGroups. -- James Bean

Joining is very simple. Just go to: https://groups.io/register   type your email address and create a password, and POOF! You're in. You'll have an account there.

Then join the Sant Mat group: https://santmatfellowship.groups.io/g/main   (or type "Sant Mat" in the search box there and you'll see a few groups I've created there), join and you'll continue to receive a message once a month or occasionally.

Not Necessarily Saints, Says Tukaram

They're not mystics because they write poetry,
not saints because they're related to a saint.
Their names and costumes don't matter;
only those who face the enemy in battle are brave.
They're not mystics just because they play instruments
and drape an ascetic's blanket over their shoulders,
or sing and recite scriptures.
Reading the Vedas and performing rituals
does not make them saints.
Penances, pilgrimages and living in forests
make no one a mystic.
Beads, caste marks and smeared ashes --
these don't make a saint.
If they don't forget the body*, says Tuka,
they're just people of the world.

-- Sant Tukarama, Many Voices, One Song, The Poet Mystics of Maharashtra

* Note: “forget the body”, or in other words, being able to transcend the material realm via meditation practice.

Paramahansa Yogananda: "Truths are not truths to you unless you realize them within yourself. Without realization, they are just ideas. For spiritual perception, spiritual consciousness, lies not in vague theological ideas, but in the acquisition of Self-realization."

Question: Is this a Covid warning?

“Be on guard, so that your hearts do not become heavy with the eating of flesh and with the intoxication of wine and with the anxiety of the world, and that day come upon you suddenly; for as a snare it will come upon all who dwell upon the surface of the earth.” (Jesus, Luke 21:34, Evangelion Da-Mepharreshe — Old Syriac-Aramaic Manuscript of the New Testament Gospels)

Answer (my reply): It certainly does fit a tragic pattern. Not that Covid 19 is the only example of a zoonotic apocalypse, just the latest in a long series of pandemics and killer flu seasons or bird flues leading to much self-inflicted human suffering due to a diet that includes eating meat. The 1918 pandemic called the Spanish Flu was an H1N1 virus with genes of avian origin. There is now discussion about a future zoonotic pandemic that could be far worse, even more deadly than the current one. And this is part of a long sad history of diseases being passed from animals to humans. Wet markets and factory farms are the perfect setting for deadly diseases to transmit from species to species to human. The consequences of the eating of flesh leading to anxiety and pestilence goes back many centuries, and may ultimately bring civilization to an end one day soon… unless we collectively change our ways. #GoVegan

"Blessed are the souls who in today's materialistic world have an inclination towards spirituality." (Swami Sant Sevi Ji Maharaj)

"What wonders has your love effected!
When someone is still alive
he has left this world:
though his bodily condition remains
with the world's bodily condition,
yet his spirit has been raised up towards You,
so that for a period of time
he is where he knows not,
being totally raptured and drawn towards You."

Your Eye Will Expand to Contain the Entire Universe

Your Eye Will Expand to Contain the Entire Universe

Sant Mat Quote of the Day:

"Speak to your mind as follows. 'O mind! Control yourself and be steady. Do not speak angrily even with those who incite you to anger. Do not give up friendship with the Friend you have accepted, i.e., maintain your love with God. Do not desert your duty.' Perform various duties with your hands and keep your mind with the Abode of Grace (Ram, God)." (The Book of Kahara, a section of the Bijak of Kabir)

"Faith, worth the name, must be living. It must consist in acquiring an affection, or rather an intense love, for the Supreme Being and an intense desire to approach Him; and this latter we can do in the interior of the body, for the highway is within us." (Huzur Maharaj, "Holy Epistles")

"The true Supreme Being is within everyone, and the Path leading to Him is also within all. By means of His rays or currents, He pervades all. Jiva or Surat [the soul, spirit] is a particle of the Supreme Being like a ray and the sun, or a drop and the ocean." (Huzur Maharaj, Prem Patra Radhasoami, Volume III)

Kabir: "In each house (heart) the Light shines. But we are blind [ignorant of that divine Light of knowledge] so we do not see it. If we keep looking we will find the Light and will destroy the shackles of death."

"We have only one consciousness stream. When we associate with truth, we ascend upwards and when we associate with untruth we fall down." (Acharya Tulsi, a Jainst teacher quoted in, "The Harmony of All Religions")

"The Center of 'seeing' or inner focus is known as Ajna Chakra (the third eye). When the mind is focused on it, the divine Light pervades every part of one's being." (Acharya Tulsi, a Jainst teacher quoted in, "The Harmony of All Religions")

"Whoever is unified will be full of Light; whoever is divided is full of darkness." (Yeshua, Gospel of Thomas) "If therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of Light." (Yeshua, Gospel of Matthew)

"Moving down from the middle of the two eyes is going towards ignorance, and moving up from the middle of two eyes is going towards Knowledge." (Bhagirath Baba)

"The beginning of the Turiyaa state has been said to be the Aajnaa-chakra [Third Eye Center] (the Guru instructs about the Point in between the two eyes where the vision of both unites), and the destination of this is in Kaivalya--the State of Oneness." (Bhagirath Baba)

"Meditation is the process of withdrawing the attention from the world outside, and focusing it at the seat of the soul in the body, behind and between the eyebrows. This point is known as the inner eye, third eye, the single eye, shiv netra, tisra til, or the divya chakshu. In order to withdraw our attention and focus it on this point, mind must be controlled and stilled." (Kirpal Singh)

"O traveller! Seek the path that lies within you. You and your Beloved are in the same body. Your Beloved is pervading everywhere, but not being perceived. Those initiated by Guru are able to recognize Him within their bodies. O traveller! If you wish to go alone on the path of the Lord, look for the path within and do not delay. The four spheres of darkness, Light, Sound and Soundlessness [Anadi, Anami] -- they all lie within the temple of your body." - Padavali of Maharshi Mehi

"On finding the central point within, at the Third Eye Center, pursue the path ahead. Opening the portal of the sphere of Light with the yoga of vision, immediately enter the very sphere of Light." - Maharshi Mehi

"One who crosses this layer of darkness through a special kind of meditation sees the inner Light within oneself. This inner Light is called Aatma-Aalok (Light of the Self) or Brahma-Prakash (Divine Light). On achieving this, the Third Eye opens completely. While gazing into the darkness that one sees with eyes closed, one should mentally repeat the guru-instructed mantra [simran]." (Swami Bhagirath Baba)

Look at God within yourself, how "God is Light." For his Nature is a glorious, many-splendored Light. He manifests the Light of his Nature to those who love Him in all the worlds. - John of Dalyatha (Syriac Mystic)

"O Nama, the Lord will make the pupil of your eye His home, and your eye will expand to contain the entire universe." (Sant Namdev)

"The Master has revealed to me the secret, dear friend.

Of a region where exist neither Void, nor breath, nor the Vedas;

Neither the five elements, nor mind, nor body are there;

Nor karmas, nor suffering;

There is no birth in that region, nor is there any death;

There, exist no bondage, no fetters, no chains.

The soul has penetrated into the peak, O friend,

And pierced, like a shaft, a hole in the sky.

Therein she beheld sights wondrous, beyond comprehension."

-- Param Sant Tulsi Sahib of Hathras

The Spiritual Experience One Has In The Beginning Is Not Enough

"The spiritual experience one may have in the practices of Simran, Dhyan and Bhajan in the beginning should not be taken as full and complete. Rather, one should remain hopeful of getting more and more of internal realization. If one has no internal realization at all, then it is book knowledge. It is knowledge theoretical, but not realization; such a one is given to learning but not devoted to practices. As one makes headway in the meditation practices, one will go on having ever-new experiences. It is with a definite purpose that the whole of the Secrets have not been revealed in the Banis. As one advances internally, the Secrets will unfold themselves to one automatically, stage by stage. A partial realization is not enough. One should always remain hopeful of getting more and more realization." (Maharaj Saheb, "Discourses")

This Will Help You

"Be simple. Be dedicated in doing your work. Believe in Sat Purush (God). Pay attention to your actions and beware of karma. Do whatever is good for society. Be the purest form of a human being. Just think purely, act purely, and love purely ..... everyone, anyone. This will help you come closer to God. By attaining this purity you will give a place to God, and the Sound Current will reside within you." (Anonymous)
