Beloved Radhasoami (Lord of All Souls) is Your Protector

Beloved Radhasoami (Lord of All Souls) is Your Protector

Some selections of Radhaswami hymns found in the book, "Niyamawali," published in Agra, India:

Guru is my Father and Mother. Who can describe His glory and eminence?

Beloved, merciful to the humble, Radhasoami, does good to my soul every moment. (Prem Bani Radhasoami, Huzur Maharaj)

0 Jiva [soul]! Why do you worry? Beloved Radhasoami is your protector. When you were born, He arranged milk for your feed and had your mother bring you up. He took care of you in every way and attracted you to His Holy Feet.

He provided you with all the pleasures of the senses and showed you the transitory nature of the world. He then drew you to Satsang and gave out to you the secrets and mysteries of the Nij Ghar (True Home). By His grace and mercy, go up and open the Tenth Door.

He improves your understanding by His discourses. He lets you examine the true nature of the mind, enabling you to give up your entanglements, delusions and adherences to past beliefs. He applies your Surat [Soul's Attention] to Shabd [inner Current of Sound and Light]. Ascend to higher regions and see beautiful scenes.

He makes the bell and the conch audible to you in Sahas-dal-kanwal [Thousand Petaled Lotus]. He shows you the splendor of Guru in Trikuti [Causal Plane, second inner Region]. See moonlight in the expanse of Sunn, and, reaching the perfect region beyond Bhanwargupha, perform Arti of Sat Guru.

Taking a telescope from Sat Purush, proceed to Alakh and Agam. Beyond lies the infinite Radhasoami Dham. Behold it and be enriched place your head at His Holy Feet. (Prem Bani Radhasoami, Huzur Maharaj)

Have patience. Do not be dejected. Fix your Attention on, and absorb yourself in the Holy Form of Guru. Always sing His praises. Make no excuses. This should be your aim, just as the Papiha (the sparrow hawk) patiently waits in expectation of the Swanti rain with a fixed aim.

Direct your Attention inward, do not allow it to flow out anywhere else. Put up with every thing inwardly. Accept nothing but internal joy. Have patience. Do not divulge acts of grace of Sat Guru to others. Live with Radhasoami like a fish in water. (Sar Bachan Radhasoami Poetry, Soami Ji Maharaj)

Mirabai Mystic Verses

Mirabai Mystic Verses

LONGING FOR THE LORD

I am struck with longing to meet the Lord,

To meet that dear One, and reach

      my true Home.

Worldly entanglements and fear of slander,

I'll give up in pursuit of true Knowledge.

The door is unlocked, my soul

      shines bright,

And longs for the mansion within the sky.

A dazzling flame appears before me,

Like a flash of lightening in days of rain.

Mira yearns now to behold her dear Lord

And sing His glory in blissful ecstasy.

THE LORD AND HIS NAME

I am attached to the Lord's Name;

His Name alone I now love and cherish.

My loving Friend has entered my heart,

As the string runs through a necklace.

He is within all, yet ever apart,

Not near, not far, is the Mighty One.

Mira now abides in the Lord's shelter;

The fear of birth and death is set aside.

BE STEADFAST

Engage in the Lord's devotion;

Persist in your meditation;

Be steadfast.

Far is the abode of the Lord,

Like the fruit of the date-palm tree.

He who climbs and reaches the top

Tastes the sweet fruit of love;

They come to ruin

Who slip and fall.

Why don the armor?

Why seek the safety of a shield?

He is the true warrior who,

Unarmed, charges with all his might;

For the Master is his armor and his shield.

With the poniard of Knowledge,

With the Master's grace as the scimitar,

And with the lance of detachment,

Take to the field, wage the war;

Never will you face defeat.

Remember, your body is but fragile,

Composed of flesh, bones and nerves,

And endowed with ten senses.

Mira's Lord alone is everlasting;

To Him she is firmly tied

By the delicate twine of love.

The Empty Tomb of Satguru Kabir - Light and Sound on The Path: Sant Mat, Kabir, Radhasoami

The Empty Tomb of Satguru Kabir

At the time of Kabir's passing, Guru Kabir drew a sheet over his body and began chanting. Reciting the glory of the Guru, he left this body and merged into God.

Kabir had disciples with both Hindu and Muslin backgrounds. After the shock of realizing what had transpired, that Kabir had left the body, Kabir's initiates began to consider the funeral arrangements. There was a considerable and heated debate between his followers as to whether the rites should be Hindu or Muslim because all considered him to be their guru and spiritual master. It is said that after some time spent in this heated debate, the sheet covering Guru Kabir's body was lifted. To everyone’s amazement Guru Kabir's material body had disappeared. Lotus flowers were found under the sheet instead of his physical body. The disciples were humbled, and they divided the flowers, giving half to the Muslim followers and the other half to the Hindu devotees. The funeral rites were duly performed for the respective traditions using the flowers in place of the missing body of the great sage.

Another Account of the Missing Body of Kabir

“One of the most loved legends associated with Kabir is told of his funeral. Kabir’s disciples disputed over his body after his passing. The Muslim initiates of Kabir wanted to claim the body for burial according to their traditional customs. The Hindu satsangis wanted to cremate the body. Kabir appeared to the arguing disciples and told them to lift the burial shroud. When they did so, they found fragrant flowers where the body had rested. The flowers were divided, and the Muslims buried the flowers, while the Hindus reverently committed them to the fires [of cremation].”

Says Kabir, "I have returned the body in the condition that I received it".

Since Kabir was found among lotus flowers as an infant, just so, he departed from his life in a city called Magahar, leaving not a corpse, but a heap of lotus flowers…. It is said.

Kabir and the Sants are not big on sacred sites, tombs or samadhs, but are focused within, not upon rituals, pilgrimages and external ceremonies.

Says Kabir, “Do not go to the garden of flowers!

O Friend! go not there;

In your body is the garden of flowers.

Take your seat on the Thousand Petals of the lotus,

and there gaze upon the Infinite Beauty.” (Kabir)

Kabir: Plucking Flowers of Spirituality Within Your Body Through the Meditation Practice of the Sants — A Great Summary of the Spiritual Journey According to Kabir and the Sants of India

The body is a forest of blooming flowers,

But only the wise can pluck them.

How does one attain to this wisdom?

Firstly, go to the perfect Teacher,

And learn from him the inner teachings.

Contemplate on the words of the saints,

And strengthen your faith day by day.

Secondly, cast all your doubts away,

And shun the perception of duality.

See the One dwelling inside and outside.

Achieve this and you're a saint.

Thirdly, rise above outer attributes,

And take a seat at the "third eye",

This is truly the suitable throne

Where you hear the Divine Melody.

Fourthly, reign in the restless mind,

And abandon all your cleverness.

Swing on the swing of divine love,

And entreat the Teacher for the gift of devotion (bhakti).

Fifthly, acquaint yourself with the eternal elements.

And exert mastery over the senses.

Sixthly, let consciousness pierce the six chakras,

And reaching above them, see the Light.

Make perfect the left and right nerve currents,

And dwell in the cave of the Void.

Seventhly, let truth enlighten your life,

And behold the Supreme Spirit within you.

Grab hold of the silken thread of realization,

And climb to the Eternal Abode.

Eighthly, let the lotus of consciousness bloom,

And render your heart resplendent.

When in your soul you see the Eternal,

Then you're fit to be called a saint (Sant).

Ninthly, your portals of perception will open,

When you make an ally of the Perfect Master.

You will see that the soul is not the body,

When the Master shows the soul's unity with God.

Tenthly, you'll reach the door of liberation,

Where the Divine Melody resounds.

Kabir says, "Listen to me, my brothers and sisters,

Only a rare one considers my teaching."

Mystic Verses of Sant Maluk Das of Allababad - Classic Sants of India - Sant Mat

Mystic Verses of Sant Maluk Das of Allababad - Classic Sants of India - Sant Mat

About

"Maluk Das (1574–1682) was an Indian devotional poet of India. He was born in Kada, near Allababad. Themes of his songs such as social reform, religious tolerance, goodwill among men, equality and the oneness of God, resemble other singers of the Bhakti movement such as Kabir and Guru Nanak. Maluk Das believes in God as a Formless Being and the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, Who, at the same time, pervades through each and every shape. Maluk Das addresses Him by several names, e.g. Nirankar (That which has no form), Avinashi (That which does not perish), Allah, Parameshwar, Jyoti Saroop (The form of Light), Parmanand (The absolute Joy), Sirjanhaar (The Creator), etc..." (Dharmapedia)

"Maluk Das (Hindi:मलुक दास, 1574) was a devotional poet-saint from Prayagraj (Allahabad), India, a religious poet of the Bhakti Movement. These Compositions are most famous: Ratna Khan, Maluk Shatak and Gyan Bodh." (Wikipedia)

"Sant Maluk Das was one of the great poet Saints of India with the universal message of love and oneness of God. He was a Saint who taught love, amity and devotion, and looked upon everyone as equal and was never biased on the basis of caste and creed. His ashrams continue to send out a message of spirituality, integrity, and harmony to this day. They are a sanctuary where people from all walks of life come to find peace within and around. Like all great Sufis and Saints, Maluk Das revived the true spirit of religion with the ultimate objective of finding communion with God through love and devotion, not through rituals.

"The tradition of Indian Saints is all-inclusive, all embracing. It concerns the well-being of entire humanity and the Being only. This is why Sufis and Saints of the Bhakti cult like Guru Nanak, Kabir, and Rumi, Baba Farid and Maluk Das were never confined to any organized religion or sect. They aimed at direct communion with the Supreme Sovereignty. Sant Mat or Sufism shows the path leading to the union of the soul with the Ultimate Soul which Sufis or Saints call Sat Naam or Al-Haqq. Like Nanak, Kabir, and Rumi, Maluk Das adopted poetry as the medium to and spread his message of spirituality, devotion, and universal brotherhood. His poetry also deals with temporal issues and various aspects of human concerns. It seeks to promote social reform, religious tolerance, and goodwill among men.

"Maluk Das believes in God as a Formless Being and the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, Who, at the same time, pervades through each and every form." (The Concept of God in Maluka’s Poetry, By Mohammad Saleem, Research Scholar, Department of English Studies & Modern European Languages, University of Allahabad, Allahabad, pages 1 and 2)

Selections of Sant Maluk Das's Mystic Verses

"Like Kabir, he does not believe in rituals such as pilgrimage, etc. When he has realized that his heart is itself the abode of God, these exterior forms are unnecessary."

"He enlightens his disciples that realization of one’s self leads to salvation and the divine bliss."

"When the seeker attains this stage, he is able to recognize God in every particle of the universe, and he does not need to seek God at specified places of pilgrimage."

"He seeks only the final refuge, i.e. God, Who is all pervading and can be found only through love and devotion to His name."

"He further says that when he has realized that God dwells everywhere, in every object, and all ideas emanate from Him and end onto Him, why the Limitless Soul should be confined to a mere stone or a book?"

Mystic Verses of Sant Tulsi Sahib on Love and Yearning

Mystic Verses of Sant Tulsi Sahib on Love and Yearning

The rainy season is specially chosen by Saints and poets in India for poems of love and longing. In this poem, Tulsi Sahib has compared streams and rivers overflowing with water to the lover’s eyes brimming with tears of yearning for union with the Beloved.

In whom longing for the Beloved has taken abode,

Every moment his body becomes feeble and enervated.

A stream of tears constantly flows from his eyes;

The pangs of pain ceaselessly smart his body and mind.

Like rivers in Sawan and Bhadon, (1) overflows the stream of my love.

Day and night I long for Him and tears fall like incessant rain.

The pain for my Beloved increasingly penetrates my being every moment;

My attention can be transfixed on nothing but him

Even as the moon bird (2) never gets satiated by looking at the moon.

Dark clouds gather and burst with thunder, and lightning dazzles the eyes.

The peacock crows in delight

and the rain bird (3) sings in longing.

I yearn for you ever more, my body keeps wasting away in anguish.

When I listen to the Sound, I lose my patience and I write to my Beloved.

With mind and soul as my couriers, I send my message to His Inaccessible Abode.

When I hear the tidings of His well-being.

My heart is filled with love and delight.

Ever since this yearning for the Lord has taken hold of me,

I have severed all connections with the world.

-- Sant Tulsi Sahib, Book of Shabdavali

_______

NOTES:

(1) The months of the rainy season, which usually tally with July and August

(2) The chakor, a bird in Indian folklore, is enamored of the moon

(3) The papiha, another bird in Indian folklore, drinks only rain water and that too only at a particular time of the year

We Are Birds of Heaven Journeying Back to Our Beloved - Spiritual Awakening Radio Podcast

We Are Birds of Heaven Journeying Back to Our Beloved - Spiritual Awakening Radio Podcast

At the beginning of today's satsang podcast, some reflections on how we can be spiritually transformed by associating with the eternal truths and realities, focusing our undivided attention upon these teachings. This association and merger with Truth is called "satsang" by the masters. Different levels of satsang are also defined. On the positive influence of satsang upon our meditation practice, Shahi Swami once said: "It requires air in the form of satsang to ignite the fire of meditation."

Then we explore the theme of 'We Are Birds of Heaven Journeying Back to Our Beloved' about hansas, birds of heaven, the souls making their journey back to God, featuring readings from the mystic poetry of Sant Dariya Sahib of Bihar, the Sar Bachan Radhaswami Poetry of Swami Ji Maharaj of Agra, a hymn from Prem Bani Radhasoami by Huzur Maharaj Rai Saligram Bahadur, passages from Baba Somanath and Sant Kirpal Singh, then a satsang by Baba Ram Singh. During a recent satsang discourse that took place at a spiritual retreat in India for satsang gatherings, initiations and meditations, Baba Ram Singh described the journey of the soul, how the swan-soul was part of God -- in it's true essence remains part of God -- but as individualized drops from the Divine Ocean, souls have incarnated into various bodies in the diverse planes of creation, eventually reaching the astral realm, and finally incarnating into physical bodies, living various lives in the material plane. He speaks of the soul as having forgotten it's true home, it's true origin, but through the meditation practice it can remember again. One may place their attention within, and make the journey back to God. Swan-souls, hansas long parched for many lifetimes, may once again drink the divine milk, meaning the divine ambrosia, the heavenly nectar or amrit, spiritual sustenance, divine intoxication or bhakti (spiritual love), by going within and communing with God during meditation practice, transitioning away from the illusion of separateness from God, back to the state of Oneness in the Timeless Eternal Realm of Sach Khand, The Ocean of Love, Radhaswami Desh. Then we conclude with a mystic poem of Satguru Kabir: "O Swan-Soul, Where Are You Going?"

We are all hansas or hansas-to-be as we journey back to the Beloved, the Supreme Being in the Ocean of Love and Oneness.

Love Opens a Portal to God - The Radhasoami Faith is a Gospel of Love - Spiritual Awakening Radio Podcast

Love Opens a Portal to God - The Radhasoami Faith is a Gospel of Love - Spiritual Awakening Radio Podcast

"A heart devoid of love or affection is as hard as stone, and does not form a suitable receptacle for the light of Heavenly Grace and Mercy... Where pure love dwells there sheds the light of Grace, as it forms a link with the Spirit or Love Current from It's Source, the Supreme Being...  Love or the power of attraction is the basis of the whole creation and the cause of its sustenance and preservation... Every wave of love rising in a lover’s heart brings tidings of goodness and joy from the Beloved, and every thought springing up in such a heart is a harbinger of good works and good services for the sake of the Beloved." "In a nut-shell, the Radhasoami Faith is a Gospel of Love. Love towards the holy feet of Radhasoami Dayal [Merciful Lord of the Soul], love towards the Guru of the time and love with all the human beings is its cardinal message." (Agam Prasad Mathur, Petals of Love)

"The practice of Surat Shabd Yoga is dependent on the love generated in the devotee's heart for the Supreme Being Radhasoami Dayal [Merciful Lord of the Soul, Anami Purush]. The Radhasoami Faith [Sant Mat] therefore advocates the blending of Yoga with Bhakti [devotion]." (Agam Prasad Mathur)

Sant Mat Devotional Practices

"It should be noted that all the following activities are included in devotional practices (Abhyas):

(1) Sumiran [Simran: Repetition of the Holy Name];

(2) Sumiran and Dhyan [Repetition of the Holy Name along with Contemplation of the Holy Form];

(3) Bhajan [Listening to the Sound Current];

(4) Recitation of holy books or listening to their recital in Satsang intelligently;

(5) Discussing the principles of the Radhasoami Faith or listening to such discussion;

(6) Thinking about and reflecting on matters pertaining to the Radhasoami Faith and its practices and pondering them; and

(7) Examining the ways of one's mind and senses daily, keeping them under control as far as possible." (Huzur Maharaj, Prem Patra Radhasoami, Volume I)

Huzur Maharaj published the writings of Shiv Dayal Singh as well as his own writings. Huzur was one of the great prolific writers of the Sant Mat tradition of India. I was greatly influenced by his many volumes, especially Prem Patra Radhaswami, volumes one through six, an encyclopedia of Sant Mat teachings, Prem Bani Radhaswami (bhakti hymns and mystic poetry), volumes one through four, Prem Updesh Radhasoami, Jugat Prakash (instructions for initiates), Radhasoami Mat Darshan, Huzur's Letters to Satsangis, and Radhasoami Mat Prakash, which was the very first Sant Mat publication from India to appear in the English language, near the beginning of the 20th Century. Sant Mat is a Path of Love and Affection, by Baba Ram Singh

SANT MAT IS A PATH OF LOVE AND AFFECTION. The soul is a form of love. The Master is also love. Even God Almighty is love and the Path to get connected to God Almighty is also love.

There is only one love that we have. Now, love is not multidirectional — it is only one love that we have. However, now we are faced with spirituality and our love and devotion for our Master and love for this world as well.

Today, our love is outwardly focused and we have our love and affection towards all outward worldly matters and our relationships. Now, this is not something that is only from this life. We have been living crores of lives like this and we have started loving all the outward things — for so many crores of lives — and that has become a habit. To now direct that love at the feet of the Master is difficult and that will happen slowly.

When we do our Simran, and we do more and more Simran, then that Simran causes the change of direction of that love to go within. And, as we do more and more Simran and we go within and we manifest the Form of the Master, there we develop our true love and affection and faith in the Master. Then we have completely moved our love to His feet from the outside world.

Therefore, we should make it a habit to do Simran. When we are cooking our food or even doing any other activity, we should try to do as much Simran as possible because, by doing Simran, we will start getting focused within.

When we manifest the Form of the Master within and we see the Radiant Form within then, automatically, our love and affection for the Master and full faith in the Master develops. And then, whatever we have heard in the Banis of the Saints, we understand their true meaning. And that love manifests within.

-- Baba Ram Singh, excerpted from a Meditation Talk, August 2nd, 2018, Love Is Not Multidirectional — It Is Only One Love That We Have

Bhakti (Spiritual Love), Not Asceticism, According to Sant Ravidas

Bhakti (Spiritual Love), Not Asceticism, According to Sant Ravidas

Raidās [Sant Ravidas] also makes it clear that bhakti is not about asceticism or the pride-evoking practice of yoga but about losing oneself in the love of God [bhakti]. He sings,

"Bhakti is not like this, my brother. Whatever is done without the

name of Rām, is all called delusion.

Bhakti is not suppression of the senses, not speaking of wisdom,

not digging a cave in the forest. Not some joke, not the snares

of desire. This is not bhakti.

Bhakti is not binding the senses, not practicing yoga, not eating

less—all these practices are called karma.

Bhakti is not reducing the sleep, not practicing renunciation.

These practices are not bhakti; they are the pride of the

Vedas.59"

Later in the poem Raidās states that bhakti happens when one loses the self in Rām*; all else is merely senseless pride and delusion.

-- A Genealogy of Devotion, Bhakti, Tantra, Yoga, and Sufism in North India, by Patton E. Burchett

* Ram, an early Sant name of the Formless Supreme Being (and not referring to any other "Ram" of Hindu mythology) - can be understood to be the true God beyond gods, or God above gods;

The Gospel of Divine Love, Narada Bhakti Sutras -- Spiritual Awakening Radio Podcast

The Gospel of Divine Love, Narada Bhakti Sutras

I am happy today to share one of my favorite scriptures, the Narada Bhakti Sutras, as well as verses on this theme of love for the God of Love from Yogani Mataji, Swami Vyasanand, Baba Ram Singh, and from the mystic poetry of Sant Dariya Kabir. Blessed is the Eye Which is Permeated With Love! "God is Love; each soul is a drop from the Ocean of Love, and the Way back to God is also through Love." (Sant Kirpal Singh) -- James Bean, Spiritual Awakening Radio, The Sant Mat Satsang Podcast @ YouTube: https://youtu.be/KvGDdxee6DY

1. Now, therefore, we shall expound the religion of Divine Love.

2. That, truly, is of the nature of the supreme Love of God.

3. And in its own intrinsic nature, Divine Love is nothing less than the immortal bliss of freedom (Mukti) itself, which comes unsolicited by the grace of God and by self-sacrifice.

4. Gaining that, man realizes his perfection and divinity and becomes thoroughly contented.

6. Realizing that, man becomes intoxicated and fascinated, as it were, because he is completely immersed in the enjoyment of the Bliss of the Atman, the truest and highest self.

The word "Nara " means knowledge useful to humanity and "Da" means a giver, so Narada means the one who gives useful knowledge to mankind and guides humanity to the right path. Narada Muni is a divine sage from the Hindu tradition, who plays a prominent role in a number of the Puranic texts, especially in the Bhagavata Purana and in the Ramayana. Narada is portrayed as a traveling monk with the ability to visit distant worlds, planets, and lokas. He uses the Veena to accompany the singing of hymns, prayers and mantras as an act of devotion to God.
