Mirabai Mystic Verses

Mirabai Mystic Verses

LONGING FOR THE LORD

I am struck with longing to meet the Lord,

To meet that dear One, and reach

      my true Home.

Worldly entanglements and fear of slander,

I'll give up in pursuit of true Knowledge.

The door is unlocked, my soul

      shines bright,

And longs for the mansion within the sky.

A dazzling flame appears before me,

Like a flash of lightening in days of rain.

Mira yearns now to behold her dear Lord

And sing His glory in blissful ecstasy.

THE LORD AND HIS NAME

I am attached to the Lord's Name;

His Name alone I now love and cherish.

My loving Friend has entered my heart,

As the string runs through a necklace.

He is within all, yet ever apart,

Not near, not far, is the Mighty One.

Mira now abides in the Lord's shelter;

The fear of birth and death is set aside.

BE STEADFAST

Engage in the Lord's devotion;

Persist in your meditation;

Be steadfast.

Far is the abode of the Lord,

Like the fruit of the date-palm tree.

He who climbs and reaches the top

Tastes the sweet fruit of love;

They come to ruin

Who slip and fall.

Why don the armor?

Why seek the safety of a shield?

He is the true warrior who,

Unarmed, charges with all his might;

For the Master is his armor and his shield.

With the poniard of Knowledge,

With the Master's grace as the scimitar,

And with the lance of detachment,

Take to the field, wage the war;

Never will you face defeat.

Remember, your body is but fragile,

Composed of flesh, bones and nerves,

And endowed with ten senses.

Mira's Lord alone is everlasting;

To Him she is firmly tied

By the delicate twine of love.

Mystic Verses of Sant Maluk Das of Allababad - Classic Sants of India - Sant Mat

Mystic Verses of Sant Maluk Das of Allababad - Classic Sants of India - Sant Mat

About

"Maluk Das (1574–1682) was an Indian devotional poet of India. He was born in Kada, near Allababad. Themes of his songs such as social reform, religious tolerance, goodwill among men, equality and the oneness of God, resemble other singers of the Bhakti movement such as Kabir and Guru Nanak. Maluk Das believes in God as a Formless Being and the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, Who, at the same time, pervades through each and every shape. Maluk Das addresses Him by several names, e.g. Nirankar (That which has no form), Avinashi (That which does not perish), Allah, Parameshwar, Jyoti Saroop (The form of Light), Parmanand (The absolute Joy), Sirjanhaar (The Creator), etc..." (Dharmapedia)

"Maluk Das (Hindi:मलुक दास, 1574) was a devotional poet-saint from Prayagraj (Allahabad), India, a religious poet of the Bhakti Movement. These Compositions are most famous: Ratna Khan, Maluk Shatak and Gyan Bodh." (Wikipedia)

"Sant Maluk Das was one of the great poet Saints of India with the universal message of love and oneness of God. He was a Saint who taught love, amity and devotion, and looked upon everyone as equal and was never biased on the basis of caste and creed. His ashrams continue to send out a message of spirituality, integrity, and harmony to this day. They are a sanctuary where people from all walks of life come to find peace within and around. Like all great Sufis and Saints, Maluk Das revived the true spirit of religion with the ultimate objective of finding communion with God through love and devotion, not through rituals.

"The tradition of Indian Saints is all-inclusive, all embracing. It concerns the well-being of entire humanity and the Being only. This is why Sufis and Saints of the Bhakti cult like Guru Nanak, Kabir, and Rumi, Baba Farid and Maluk Das were never confined to any organized religion or sect. They aimed at direct communion with the Supreme Sovereignty. Sant Mat or Sufism shows the path leading to the union of the soul with the Ultimate Soul which Sufis or Saints call Sat Naam or Al-Haqq. Like Nanak, Kabir, and Rumi, Maluk Das adopted poetry as the medium to and spread his message of spirituality, devotion, and universal brotherhood. His poetry also deals with temporal issues and various aspects of human concerns. It seeks to promote social reform, religious tolerance, and goodwill among men.

"Maluk Das believes in God as a Formless Being and the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, Who, at the same time, pervades through each and every form." (The Concept of God in Maluka’s Poetry, By Mohammad Saleem, Research Scholar, Department of English Studies & Modern European Languages, University of Allahabad, Allahabad, pages 1 and 2)

Selections of Sant Maluk Das's Mystic Verses

"Like Kabir, he does not believe in rituals such as pilgrimage, etc. When he has realized that his heart is itself the abode of God, these exterior forms are unnecessary."

"He enlightens his disciples that realization of one’s self leads to salvation and the divine bliss."

"When the seeker attains this stage, he is able to recognize God in every particle of the universe, and he does not need to seek God at specified places of pilgrimage."

"He seeks only the final refuge, i.e. God, Who is all pervading and can be found only through love and devotion to His name."

"He further says that when he has realized that God dwells everywhere, in every object, and all ideas emanate from Him and end onto Him, why the Limitless Soul should be confined to a mere stone or a book?"

More Sant Maluk Das Verses (Hindi [followed by English translation])

Poem 1

“Tar hai chitai lāj karu jan kī, ḍāru hāth kī phānsī.

Jan tē tērō jōr na lahihai, rachchhapāl avināśī.”

[“You stand at the shore, mindful of your servant’s honor—cut away the noose from my hand.

Your servant cannot summon the strength on his own—O undying Preserver, deliver me.]

“Kahai Malūkā chup karu ṭhagani, auguṇ rākhu durāī.

Jo jan ubarai Rām nām kahi, tāte kachhu na basāī.”

[“Malūk says: ‘Be silent, you deceiver—hide your faults away.

If a devotee is saved by chanting Rām’s Name, you have no power to stop him.]

Poem 2

“Sōtē sōtē janam gaṃvāyā—

[While asleep, one has wasted life.]

“Māyā mōh mēṃ sani paḍō sō, Rām nām nahīṃ pāyā.”

[So immersed in worldly illusion, you never obtained Rām’s Name.]

“Mīṭhī nīnd sōyē sukh apnē, kabhūn nahīṃ alasānē.

Gāfil hōkē mahal mēṃ sōyē, phir pāchē paḍachitaānē.”

[You slumbered sweetly in self-indulgence, never once rousing yourself.

Heedless, you slept in your palace—only afterwards did regret set in.]

“Ajahūṃ uṭhō kahā̃ tum baiṭhē, binatī sunō hamārī.

Chahūṃ ōra maiṃ āhaṭ pāyā, bahut bha’ī bhū’ī bhārī.”

[Even now, rise—why do you linger? Listen to my entreaty.

I sense the signs from every side—the weight of the earth has grown heavy.]

“Bandīchhōra rahata ghaṭ bhītara, khabar na kāhū pāyī.

Kahat Malūk Rām kē paharā, jāgō mērē bhā’ī.”

[The Liberator dwells within the heart, yet no one notices.

Malūk says: Rām stands guard—awake, O my brothers.]

Poem 3

“Ab tērī śaraṇa āyō Rām.”

[Now I have come to Your refuge, O Rām.]

“Jabē suniyā sādh kē mukh, patit-pāvan nām.”

[When I heard from the saints’ lips saying the Name that saves the fallen.]

“Yahī jān pukār kīnhī, ati satāyō kām.”

[Recognizing this, I cried out, tormented by worldly desires.]

“Viṣaya sētī bhayō ājiz, kaha Malūk gulām.”

[Exhausted by sense-pleasures, says Malūk, Your slave.]

Poem 4

“Bābā man kā hai sir talē—

[O father, the mind rests beneath the head.]

“Māyā kē abhimān bhūlē, garva hī mēṃ galē.”

[“Lost in illusions of pride, you languish in conceit.]

“Jibhyā kāraṇ khūn kiyē, bāndhi jampur chalē.”

[On account of the tongue, you have committed murders—bound, you proceed to the land of

Death.]

“Rāmajī sōṃ bhayē bēmukh, agini apnī jalē.”

[Turning your face from Lord Rām, you burn in your own fire.]

“Hari bhajē sē bhayē nirbhay, ṭārahūṃ nahīṃ ṭarē.”

[Those who worship Hari become fearless; they do not waver in their resolve.]

“Kaha Malūkā jahā̃ garībī, tē’ī saba sē bhalē.”

[Malūk says: Where there is humility, those people prove the best among all.]

Kabir Says: And what if the talk of paradise is just hearsay? You better check out the place yourself.

Kabir Says: And what if the talk of paradise is just hearsay? You better check out the place yourself.

Let’s go! Everyone keeps saying,

As if they knew where paradise is,

But ask them what lies beyond

The street they live on,

They’ll give you a blank look.

If paradise is where they’re heading,

Paradise is not where they’ll end up.

And what if the talk of paradise is just hearsay?

You better check out the place yourself.

As for me, says Kabir, if you’re listening,

Good company’s all I seek.

The above poem is from the Kabir Poet Blog

https://kabirpoet.blogspot.com/2016/04/good-companys-all-i-seek.html

The Time Before Death

Friend? hope for the Guest while you are alive.

Jump into experience while you are alive!

Think... and think... while you are alive.

What you call "salvation" belongs to the time

            before death.

If you don't break your ropes while you're alive,

do you think ghosts will do it after?

The idea that the soul will join with the ecstatic

just because the body is rotten --

that is all fantasy.

What is found now is found then.

If you find nothing now,

you will simply end up with an apartment in the

          City of Death.

If you make love with the divine now, in the next

life you will have the face of satisfied desire.

So plunge into the truth, find out who the Teacher is,

Believe in the Great Sound!

Kabir says this: When the Guest is being searched for,

it is the intensity of the longing for the Guest

that does all the work.

Look at me, and you will see a slave of that intensity.

Says Kabir: Now What To Fear?

Says Kabir: Now What To Fear?

Now what to fear?

Fear merged in Fear,

I know the secret of duality.

Fears always afflicted me,

when I isolated

you from me.

One is he with the One

who sees

the inner-outer as one.

But brute is he

who led by delusion

makes low-high division.

Freed from my 'I',

says Kabir,

I saw Ram in all.

We Are Birds of Heaven Journeying Back to Our Beloved - Spiritual Awakening Radio Podcast

We Are Birds of Heaven Journeying Back to Our Beloved - Spiritual Awakening Radio Podcast

At the beginning of today's satsang podcast, some reflections on how we can be spiritually transformed by associating with the eternal truths and realities, focusing our undivided attention upon these teachings. This association and merger with Truth is called "satsang" by the masters. Different levels of satsang are also defined. On the positive influence of satsang upon our meditation practice, Shahi Swami once said: "It requires air in the form of satsang to ignite the fire of meditation."

Then we explore the theme of 'We Are Birds of Heaven Journeying Back to Our Beloved' about hansas, birds of heaven, the souls making their journey back to God, featuring readings from the mystic poetry of Sant Dariya Sahib of Bihar, the Sar Bachan Radhaswami Poetry of Swami Ji Maharaj of Agra, a hymn from Prem Bani Radhasoami by Huzur Maharaj Rai Saligram Bahadur, passages from Baba Somanath and Sant Kirpal Singh, then a satsang by Baba Ram Singh. During a recent satsang discourse that took place at a spiritual retreat in India for satsang gatherings, initiations and meditations, Baba Ram Singh described the journey of the soul, how the swan-soul was part of God -- in it's true essence remains part of God -- but as individualized drops from the Divine Ocean, souls have incarnated into various bodies in the diverse planes of creation, eventually reaching the astral realm, and finally incarnating into physical bodies, living various lives in the material plane. He speaks of the soul as having forgotten it's true home, it's true origin, but through the meditation practice it can remember again. One may place their attention within, and make the journey back to God. Swan-souls, hansas long parched for many lifetimes, may once again drink the divine milk, meaning the divine ambrosia, the heavenly nectar or amrit, spiritual sustenance, divine intoxication or bhakti (spiritual love), by going within and communing with God during meditation practice, transitioning away from the illusion of separateness from God, back to the state of Oneness in the Timeless Eternal Realm of Sach Khand, The Ocean of Love, Radhaswami Desh. Then we conclude with a mystic poem of Satguru Kabir: "O Swan-Soul, Where Are You Going?"

We are all hansas or hansas-to-be as we journey back to the Beloved, the Supreme Being in the Ocean of Love and Oneness.

Heavenly Hymns and Poetry (Padavali) of Sant Maharshi Mehi - Spiritual Awakening Radio Podcast

Heavenly Hymns and Poetry (Padavali) of Sant Maharshi Mehi - Spiritual Awakening Radio Podcast

"O traveller! Seek the path that lies within you,

You and your Beloved are in the same body;

Your Beloved is pervading everywhere, but not being perceived,

Those initiated by the master are able to recognize Him within their bodies...

The glittering Point between the two eyebrows [Third Eye Center] is visible,

O brothers and sisters! Closing your eyelids, try to see,

Let the two currents of vision converge at the central Point between and behind the eyebrows,

Fix your gaze and cross the material sphere and enter the Egg of the Universe;

The Sky, studded with Stars, looks so wonderful,

Light, like an earthen lamp, is visible that illuminates

the darkness of the closed eyes..." (Padavali of Maharshi Mehi)

PODCAST: Mystic Verses of Kabir in the Adi Granth (Sikh Scriptures) -- This Is What I Mean By "Sant Mat" -- A Sant Mat Satsang Podcast

PODCAST: Mystic Verses of Kabir in the Adi Granth (Sikh Scriptures) -- This Is What I Mean By "Sant Mat" -- A Sant Mat Satsang Podcast Edition of Spiritual Awakening Radio With James Bean @ Youtube: https://youtu.be/XSv9Hom5ICc

OR Listen to, and/or DOWNLOAD the Podcast MP3 @ The Internet Archive:

Below Are NOTES About Today's PODCAST (12-27-18):

Today's Program -- Table of Contents -- Program Outline:

I begin with an end-of-the-year, Solstice, Purnima (Satsang Full Moon Spiritual Retreat), New Year's Message from Shri Hazur 1008 Ardhnam Saheb of the Dharamdasi Kabir Panth. Following that, there are Kabir poems that mention the moon. Then the rest of the program explores the earliest teachings of Guru Kabir preserved in the Adi Granth (Guru Granth, Shri Guru Granth, Sikh Scriptures of India). These are culled from two different translations:

1) Songs of Kabir from the Adi Granth, by Nirmal Dass, and,

2) from a line-by-line interlinear collection of all the verses of Kabir in the Granth.

These present Kabir's key teachings about this Path of the Masters as he intended it to be, and this is what I mean by "Sant Mat".

"I was being crushed
like seeds in an oil-press --
but the Satguru set me free.
Love, old as all my births,
flickered once again."

Taking Off the Heavy Load Through Meditation

Unfettered meditation
brings jiva mukti (liberation):
Your heavy load is taken off.
Welcome Him in your heart,
so you will not be born
again and again.

This meditation
will erase your blemishes;
you will be free from Maya’s touch.
Meditate, meditate, and sing,
“Hari, Hari” [God, God]. You will obtain
this meditation from your true guru [Satguru].

Always, always meditate day and night:
When you rise, when you lie down,
when you breathe in, when you breathe out.
Waking or sleeping,
relish the taste of meditation —
meditation will bring union.

Meditation will remove all your burdens;
meditation upon Ram’s [God’s] name
will become your support.
Kabir, says, “He is limitless.”

-- Kabir,
Songs of Kabir
in the Adi Granth,
Nirmal Dass)

"Says Kabir: With my eyes, I see You, Lord; with my ears, I hear Your Name.
With my tongue I chant Your Name; I enshrine Your Lotus Feet within my heart."

Mystic Verses of Sant Dadu Dayal: Recognize the Path to Your Beloved, O Traveler

Mystic Verses of Sant Dadu Dayal: Recognize the Path to Your Beloved, O Traveler

While alive one can transcend bodily qualities,
While alive one can be liberated,
While alive one can shed all karmas.
That truly is called liberation.

While alive once can cross over the uncrossable,
While alive can one go to the other shore,
While alive one can find a universal Master
And can attain discrimination and wisdom.

If the meeting is not accomplished while alive,
If contact is not made while alive,
If the Lord of the Universe is not found while alive,
Then one is simply drowned.

Only while living is one freed, says Dadu;
There is no liberation after death.
If one were to be freed after death,*
Then all would come under that freedom.

(*Since death is common to all people,
all would then be said to be equally free after death.)

Some say one can secure an abode
in paradise after death;
They preach liberation after death.
They are indeed making the world insane, O Dadu.

The Path Towards God (Satya-Raam)

Recognize the path to your Beloved, O traveler,
and take the route of the anguished lover in separation.
One who treads as the living dead
crosses the impassable ghat.
Keep the Master’s grace on your head
and reflect on his pure teachings.
Develop love and devotion with endearment
and keep the thought of the Creator always before you.
Try to merge yourself into God, like water into water.
Fix your mind within by following the path
of the Sound Current.
A yearning will arise; make then an intense
and anguished call.
Repeat the Name of your Beloved day and night,
again and again.
Watching, carefully place your foot;
the path is like the edge of a sword.
With care in thought, word and deed,
you shall cross to the other shore, O Dadu.

Prayer of Dadu

My life is for the sake of Your Name, O Lord.
All my means are nothing by Your true Name.
Your Name alone is my charity, virtue,
penance and pilgrimage,
And this alone is my service and worship:
Such, indeed, is my vow.
My Vedas and holy scriptures, as well as purity
and discipline, are Your Name alone.
This alone is my knowledge and contemplation;
there is nothing else.
By the Name alone do I control lust and anger
and transcend bodily limitations.
Say it openly – concealed and revealed – God is my all.
Eternally redeemed and redeemer of all is Your Name;
You alone are my support.
Dadu has merged with it in perfect unison;
By holding to the Name, he has crossed
the ocean of the world.

-- from Panch Vani Granth of Sant Dadu Dayal
