Mystic Verses of Sant Dadu Dayal of Rajasthan - Light and Sound on The Path

Mystic Verses of Sant Dadu Dayal of Rajasthan

Do the repetition of God [God's Name] and forget

Him not.

Fulfill the purpose of thy birth

by practicing concentration.

Be steadfast in the remembrance of God.

Practice meditation with love, and sing

the glory of God.

The human body is the door to salvation.

Do the repetitions of God, the Creator

of the universe.

Recognize the Path to your Beloved, O travelers and

take the route of the anguished lover in separation.

Keep the Master's grace in your thoughts, and reflect

upon his pure teachings. Develop love and devotion

with endearment, and keep the thought of the Creator

always before you. Try to merge yourself into God

like water and water. Fix your mind within by

following the Path of the Sound Current. A yearning

will arise; make then an intense and anguished call.

Repeat the Name of your Beloved, day and night,

again and again. With care in thought, word and deed,

you will cross to the other shore.

Nothing to Fear

The all-knowing, almighty Lord is always within us.

He knows all our needs and is constantly taking care of us.

With this realization and faith, lovers of

God have no worries at all.

The perfect Fulfiller is close by;

He is not far off, O foolish one.

He knows all, O deluded one,

And prompt He is in giving.

God is concerned for us, O Dadu;

The Almighty One knows all.

Turn to God, O Dadu, and worry not.

That almighty Companion keeps company

with you

amidst danger and dread.

Hold steadfastly to that Beloved, O valiant mind,

and forsake Him not.

The Provider stands ready with provisions,

And readily does He provide.

The perfect Fulfiller is close by,

ever present within us.

Abode of Light - Manzil-e-Noor

Let life enjoy eternal happiness,
Let the flame of wisdom and faith be lit in the soul,
Let God's Name flow in our veins,
Let each human being find relief from ego.
One who drinks from your cup and becomes oblivious
to one's self
Merges in God and becomes the Cupbearer.
(Sant Darshan Singh, Abode of Light - Manzil-e-Noor)

Abode of Light — Manzil-e-Noor is a collection of mystic poems reflecting upon the life and teachings of Guru Nanak composed by Darshan Singh.

Selections from the Sar Bachan Radhasoami Poetry of Soami Ji Maharaj

Selections from the Sar Bachan Radhasoami Poetry of Soami Ji Maharaj

"You will not find any trace or sign of the Master in pilgrimages, fasts, rituals, or temples. The poet Rumi says: 'The mosques and temples are within the saints. That is where God resides.'"

"Seek the Beloved within yourself. If you are anxious to meet your Beloved, do not stray in the world."

"When your eye turns inward in the brain and you see the firmament within, and your spirit leaves the body and rises upward, you will see the Akash in which is located Sahas-dal-kanwal, the thousand petals of which perform the various functions pertaining to the three worlds. Its effulgence will exhilarate your spirit."

"Realize your real form within, and then proceed further with your Surat.*"  (* attention-faculty of the soul)

"My dear, listen to what I say. Turn within yourself and behold light."

"Behold the marvellous Jyoti (flame) within yourself. Radhasoami* has opened the spring of Bhakti."

"Shabd* is ringing within you. Hear it with rapt attention."   (* sound current)

"Listen to Anhad Shabd within, says Radhasoami."

"Slowly and gradually you will gain stability. There is no other remedy but to perform Bhakti*.  (* bhakti, love and devotion)

One day your imperfect Bhakti will become perfect. Give up hypocrisy and engage in Bhakti.

Insincere Bhakti will not do. Perform true and sincere Bhakti, no matter if it is imperfect.

Radhasoami graciously declares that you should perform Bhakti in whatever manner you can."

"Therefore, perform Bhakti and make your life fruitful."

*Radhasoami (Radhaswami), The Lord of the Soul

Exploring the Anurag Sagar's Cosmic Conspiracy of Kal, Plus the Origin of the Anurag Sagar (Ocean of Love)

Exploring the Anurag Sagar's Cosmic Conspiracy of Kal, And Further Below, the Origin of the Anurag Sagar (Ocean of Love), India's Most Gnostic Scripture

The Cosmic Conspiracy of Kal Niranjan, the Gnostic Demiurge, the Negative Power

The Kal said to Kabir:

I will do something there so that nobody will believe in Your

Shabda [Word].

There I will create such karmas and illusions that nobody will find

the way out.

In every single home I will create the ghost of illusion, and deceiving

the souls, I will make them forget.

All humans will eat flesh and drink wine, and all kinds of flesh will

be the favorites.

0 brother, Your Devotion is difficult — Nobody will believe it, I’m

telling You!

That is why I say: ‘Don’t go into the world now!’”

Kabir said:

At that time I told Kal, “I know your deceptions and tricks.

HYMN

Making the souls firm in the true Shabda, I will enable them to

remove your illusions.

I will make them recognize all your tricks, and by the strength of

Naam I will liberate the souls.

Those who remember me in thought, word and deed, focusing their

attention on the Elementless,

Such souls will go to the Immortal World, putting their feet on your

head.

COUPLET

Any brave and wise soul will finish your ego.

And very happily that soul will be convinced of the true Shabda.”

Hearing this Kal felt defeated and started to think of deceptions.

The Anurag Sagar Granth (Scripture) from the Closing Chapter

By speaking the Anurag Sagar Granth, I have explained to you the Secret of the Inaccessible. I have described the Drama of Sat Purush, and the deception of Kal. Only the connoisseurs will understand the ways of living and the Word of Discrimination. One who will accept the Word after testing it, will know the Path to the Inaccessible…

The Union of Surat and Shabda - when one gets Shabda, he reaches the realm of the Saints. It is the play of the drop and the ocean. What else can one say?

After meeting the Satguru, one understands the play of Shabda and Surat. It is the union of the drop and the ocean. What else can one say?

Giving up the qualities of mind, one should follow the Path of the Master. Such a soul goes to Sat Lok and derives Happiness from the Ocean of Happiness.

Understand the jiva as the drop, and the Naam of the Satguru as the ocean, Says Kabir with proof: Dharam Das, understand this!

ABOUT THE ANURAG SAGAR TRANSLATION - The Origin of the Anurag Sagar (Ocean of Love)

Sant Bani books published an English translation of the Anurag Sagar in 1982 based on the Swami Yugalananda edition. From the introduction to this translation Russell Perkins writes: "Our text is from the edition published in Bombay in 1914 by Swami Yugalananda, who says in his Hindi preface that he used forty-six different versions of Anurag Sagar, thirteen of them hand-written, in preparing his edition, and that he carefully and painstakingly collated all the versions and compared all variant readings in order to arrive at the present book. This edition was specially recommended by Sant Ajaib Singh as the basis for the English translation, as it is the only text available based on this kind of careful scholarship."

The Anurag Sagar is volume two in a vast granth or collection of scriptures known as the Kabir Sagar (Ocean of Kabir). All eleven volumes of the complete Kabir Sagar were compiled, translated and published back in 1914 by Swami Yugalananda.

Background Information on Swami Yugalananda, The Great Scholar of Dharam Das Kabir Writings

Yugalananda was also known as "Shri Yugalanand Bihari", "Kabir Panthi Yugalanand Bihari" or "Bharat Pathik".  Swami Yugalananda was born into a Kabir panth family, eventually became a collector of books, did much traveling around India and neighboring countries assiduously attempting to create critical editions of various Kabir publications by gathering together as many diverse copies of various Kabir related texts as he could, and was very much interested in reforming the Kabir panth. By Kabir panth (the Path of Kabir) here I'm specifically referring to the Dharamdasis (the Sant Dharam Das line of Masters), as only they recognize the Anurag Sagar and the other Kabir Sagar books as scripture. The other Kabir panth sects don't use those.

Yugalananda claimed that over time, unqualified leaders (“mahants”) had altered or distorted many original manuscripts. He aimed to revise and purify the scripture to restore authenticity, sourcing from the best available copies, especially one from Shri Ugranam Sahib. He worked to safeguard doctrinal integrity through textual criticism and editorial reform. His effort shaped how Kabir Sagar and related Sagar books are presented and studied within devotional contexts. He has become the authoritative, honest go-to-source for Kabir texts. His redaction approach influenced the Kabir Panthi community’s standardized edition of the Kabir Sagar volumes widely used today.

He is well-known for his translation and compilation of Kabir Sagar, Anurag Sagar, and other key Kabir Panthi texts. He was a prolific author who is credited with writing forty-two books, including Kabir ki Sakhi (1898) and Anurag Sagar (1914), published in Bombay by Shri Venkateshwar Press.

At the time of the publication of the Kabir Sagar volumes in 1914, Yugalananda, also known as Swami Yugalanand Bihari, for a time apparently served as the Acharya (spiritual head, guru) of a Kabir Ashram: Kabirdham (Kabir Dharma Nagar) located at Damakheda, a major center of the Kabir Panth in Chhattisgarh. In some of his other Kabir-related publications however, I've noticed that the signatures included in his introductions mention him being located at a Kabir Ashram in Bombay: "Kabir Ashram, Khagsiya Station, Yours sincerely, Bilaspur, C.P.Shri Yugalanand Bihari, Kuchar Bhawan, Rashtriyashala Road..., Vile Parle, Bombay... (Acharya Kabir Ashram)."

A list of all forty of the books included in the eleven volume set called, The Kabir Sagar, the Swami Yugalananda edition published in 1914:

Dadu Dayal’s Vision For Living A Spiritual Life

Dadu Dayal’s Vision For Living A Spiritual Life

A quote from the 16th century Indian Master Dadu, who outlined the Sant Mat vision of the spiritual life to be pursued during our time here on planet Earth:

Recognize the Path to your Beloved, O travelers and take the route of the anguished lover in separation. Keep the Master’s grace in your thoughts, and reflect upon his pure teachings. Develop love and devotion with endearment, and keep the thought of the Creator always before you. Try to merge yourself into God like water and water. With care in thought, word and deed, you will cross to the other shore.

Simran, the Practice of Remembering God in a World of Forgetfulness

Simran, the Practice of Remembering God in a World of Forgetfulness

"Santmat is not some new doctrine or religion. It is very ancient. Even the Upanishads teach bindu-nada meditation. It is not only saints of this age who have spoken about it; sages of olden times also taught this. One should understand this and continue to practice it regularly." (Maharshi Mehi, Experiential Knowledge)

Simran: "Repetition of names or thoughts; in Sant Mat, the simran of worldly thoughts is controlled through the Simran of the Five Charged Names, repeated by an initiate throughout the day and when sitting for meditation as a means of collecting the thought currents at the Third Eye Center; also used as a password of sorts to higher planes and protection from Negative Power influences." (Sant Mat Glossary)

How to do Simran

"When simran of the Lord is carried out incessantly and with every breath of one’s life, it awakens one’s consciousness in the Lord. Simran of the name or names given by someone whose consciousness is awakened in God is highly beneficial because, through the medium of thought transference between master and disciple, fast success is assured. In this way the soul’s passage through the spiritual regions is expedited so it can cross those regions without hindrance.

"After assuming an easy posture, simran should be done by concentrating one’s attention between the eyebrows (which is the seat of the soul) and repeating the names with the tongue of the soul with an all-consuming absorption. Simran done in this manner overcomes the restlessness of the mind and results in a high degree of concentration." (Hazur Baba Sawan Singh, My Submission)

"Please concentrate your attention in the eyes [third eye center] when repeating the Holy Names. As your concentration becomes stronger many mysteries will become solved for you. As your soul having collected in the eyes turns inwards you will get more flashes of light and knowledge. Solitude brings peace and helps in spiritual progress." (Hazur Baba Sawan Singh)

"The repetition of the Five Names should be performed with love and affection, fixing the attention in the eyes without putting any pressure on them, and sitting in one posture as far as possible so that you become unconscious of the body below the eyes and thought does not run outside the focus of the eyes. When you sit to listen to the Sound, try to get pleasure out of it." (Hazur Baba Sawan Singh)

"The change of focus is done by constant practice and effort to rise up and fix and hold the attention at the higher centers. This is the underlying idea of the repetition of the Names. Each Name gives you an idea of something within you and above the eyes. Every time you repeat a Name attentively you are trying to rise up, and sooner or later the eye-focus will become the headquarters of your attention." (Hazur Baba Sawan Singh)

"When you begin to hear the bell sound clearly in the right direction, you may give up Simran (repetition of the Holy Names) and then connect your soul with the Sound again." (Hazur Baba Sawan Singh)

"When God Almighty showers His Grace, He sends the Saints to awaken such souls who have forgotten about God Almighty and who have lost their way in this world. The Saints come, and then They awaken the souls. They tell us about the Reality. And They try to enlighten us about what is the truth. And They try to get us out of this ocean of life and death.

"Then They show us the Path. They show us the practice of doing our Bhajan Simran. And by doing so, when we go within, They again manifest that Light and Sound within. And once that Holy Sound and Light is manifested within, the darkness of ignorance, or the darkness of this veil of Maya is cast aside. And again, the soul experiences and understands all its previous births and automatically develops that love and affection for the Master and goes within.

"Therefore, Saints come into this world only to take us from this home to our True Home. They don't come here to get us entangled again in this life and death.

"So, therefore, it is incumbent on us to listen to what They have to say and follow Their instructions and do our meditations every day. We should not get swayed by the color of this world, because the color of this world is not permanent. It is only there for a few days.

"We should, therefore, focus our energies to do our meditations, to listen to Satsang every day, and to keep our aim of going back to God Almighty in front of us." (Baba Ram Singh, excerpted from an August 2024 Satsang Discourse)

Some Radhaswami Verses of Shiv Brat Lal from His Book of Hymns/Poetry/Bhajans: Shiv Shabd Sagar

Some Radhaswami Verses of Shiv Brat Lal from His Book of Hymns/Poetry/Bhajans: Shiv Shabd Sagar

Verses of Awakening

Refrain: My awareness, now wise, awaken!

My awareness has become wise, a devotee, forgetting its conscious form.

Trapped in the noose of time and illusion, it fails to see the essence or support.

Awaken now! My awareness, a traveler, has gone mad, lost in the delusion of the world.

This world is nothing but the expansion of the mind's desires.

Awaken now! My clever awareness, entangled in worldly illusions, cannot discern the mystery of delusion.

Those who swing in the cradle of doubt, how can they taste the essence of truth?

Awaken now! My wise awareness, intoxicated with pride, trapped in ego and arrogance.

Bound by the chains of "mine" and "yours," it is tied in the bonds of bondage.

Awaken now! My wise awareness, filled with remorse, has come to the company of the truth.

Radhasoami, the form of compassion, has spoken, taking refuge in the true Guru.

Awaken now!

Where Shall I Seek Happiness?

Refrain: Where am I, searching for happiness?

All that exists is within me—truth, consciousness, and bliss.

Without opening my eyes, how can I be amazed by the moon in my heart?

Where am I? I am a drop, my movement is in the ocean, like waves and bubbles.

I speak openly, but none believe; the restless mind remains unsteady.

In me are the soul, nature, and God; in me is the infinite, the indivisible.

I am present in every fragment, my form is the cosmic egg.

In me, the creation of the universe unfolds; I am the child, the father, the mother.

Birth and death are my play; I come and go nowhere.

Through service to the Guru and the company of saints, a being may realize this.

Radhasoami, I surrender at your feet, recognizing my true form.

Note: "Radhaswami" means "Lord of the Soul". Shiv Brat Lal was a disciple and spiritual successor of Huzur Maharaj Rai Saligram of the Radhasoami Faith, a prolific writer. It's quite valuable to be able to access his writings from the early days of the Radhasoami movement.

Beloved Radhasoami (Lord of All Souls) is Your Protector

Beloved Radhasoami (Lord of All Souls) is Your Protector

Some selections of Radhaswami hymns found in the book, "Niyamawali," published in Agra, India:

Guru is my Father and Mother. Who can describe His glory and eminence?

Beloved, merciful to the humble, Radhasoami, does good to my soul every moment. (Prem Bani Radhasoami, Huzur Maharaj)

0 Jiva [soul]! Why do you worry? Beloved Radhasoami is your protector. When you were born, He arranged milk for your feed and had your mother bring you up. He took care of you in every way and attracted you to His Holy Feet.

He provided you with all the pleasures of the senses and showed you the transitory nature of the world. He then drew you to Satsang and gave out to you the secrets and mysteries of the Nij Ghar (True Home). By His grace and mercy, go up and open the Tenth Door.

He improves your understanding by His discourses. He lets you examine the true nature of the mind, enabling you to give up your entanglements, delusions and adherences to past beliefs. He applies your Surat [Soul's Attention] to Shabd [inner Current of Sound and Light]. Ascend to higher regions and see beautiful scenes.

He makes the bell and the conch audible to you in Sahas-dal-kanwal [Thousand Petaled Lotus]. He shows you the splendor of Guru in Trikuti [Causal Plane, second inner Region]. See moonlight in the expanse of Sunn, and, reaching the perfect region beyond Bhanwargupha, perform Arti of Sat Guru.

Taking a telescope from Sat Purush, proceed to Alakh and Agam. Beyond lies the infinite Radhasoami Dham. Behold it and be enriched place your head at His Holy Feet. (Prem Bani Radhasoami, Huzur Maharaj)

Have patience. Do not be dejected. Fix your Attention on, and absorb yourself in the Holy Form of Guru. Always sing His praises. Make no excuses. This should be your aim, just as the Papiha (the sparrow hawk) patiently waits in expectation of the Swanti rain with a fixed aim.

Direct your Attention inward, do not allow it to flow out anywhere else. Put up with every thing inwardly. Accept nothing but internal joy. Have patience. Do not divulge acts of grace of Sat Guru to others. Live with Radhasoami like a fish in water. (Sar Bachan Radhasoami Poetry, Soami Ji Maharaj)

Mirabai Mystic Verses

Mirabai Mystic Verses

LONGING FOR THE LORD

I am struck with longing to meet the Lord,

To meet that dear One, and reach

      my true Home.

Worldly entanglements and fear of slander,

I'll give up in pursuit of true Knowledge.

The door is unlocked, my soul

      shines bright,

And longs for the mansion within the sky.

A dazzling flame appears before me,

Like a flash of lightening in days of rain.

Mira yearns now to behold her dear Lord

And sing His glory in blissful ecstasy.

THE LORD AND HIS NAME

I am attached to the Lord's Name;

His Name alone I now love and cherish.

My loving Friend has entered my heart,

As the string runs through a necklace.

He is within all, yet ever apart,

Not near, not far, is the Mighty One.

Mira now abides in the Lord's shelter;

The fear of birth and death is set aside.

BE STEADFAST

Engage in the Lord's devotion;

Persist in your meditation;

Be steadfast.

Far is the abode of the Lord,

Like the fruit of the date-palm tree.

He who climbs and reaches the top

Tastes the sweet fruit of love;

They come to ruin

Who slip and fall.

Why don the armor?

Why seek the safety of a shield?

He is the true warrior who,

Unarmed, charges with all his might;

For the Master is his armor and his shield.

With the poniard of Knowledge,

With the Master's grace as the scimitar,

And with the lance of detachment,

Take to the field, wage the war;

Never will you face defeat.

Remember, your body is but fragile,

Composed of flesh, bones and nerves,

And endowed with ten senses.

Mira's Lord alone is everlasting;

To Him she is firmly tied

By the delicate twine of love.

The Empty Tomb of Satguru Kabir - Light and Sound on The Path: Sant Mat, Kabir, Radhasoami

The Empty Tomb of Satguru Kabir

At the time of Kabir's passing, Guru Kabir drew a sheet over his body and began chanting. Reciting the glory of the Guru, he left this body and merged into God.

Kabir had disciples with both Hindu and Muslin backgrounds. After the shock of realizing what had transpired, that Kabir had left the body, Kabir's initiates began to consider the funeral arrangements. There was a considerable and heated debate between his followers as to whether the rites should be Hindu or Muslim because all considered him to be their guru and spiritual master. It is said that after some time spent in this heated debate, the sheet covering Guru Kabir's body was lifted. To everyone’s amazement Guru Kabir's material body had disappeared. Lotus flowers were found under the sheet instead of his physical body. The disciples were humbled, and they divided the flowers, giving half to the Muslim followers and the other half to the Hindu devotees. The funeral rites were duly performed for the respective traditions using the flowers in place of the missing body of the great sage.

Another Account of the Missing Body of Kabir

“One of the most loved legends associated with Kabir is told of his funeral. Kabir’s disciples disputed over his body after his passing. The Muslim initiates of Kabir wanted to claim the body for burial according to their traditional customs. The Hindu satsangis wanted to cremate the body. Kabir appeared to the arguing disciples and told them to lift the burial shroud. When they did so, they found fragrant flowers where the body had rested. The flowers were divided, and the Muslims buried the flowers, while the Hindus reverently committed them to the fires [of cremation].”

Says Kabir, "I have returned the body in the condition that I received it".

Since Kabir was found among lotus flowers as an infant, just so, he departed from his life in a city called Magahar, leaving not a corpse, but a heap of lotus flowers…. It is said.

Kabir and the Sants are not big on sacred sites, tombs or samadhs, but are focused within, not upon rituals, pilgrimages and external ceremonies.

Says Kabir, “Do not go to the garden of flowers!

O Friend! go not there;

In your body is the garden of flowers.

Take your seat on the Thousand Petals of the lotus,

and there gaze upon the Infinite Beauty.” (Kabir)

Kabir: Plucking Flowers of Spirituality Within Your Body Through the Meditation Practice of the Sants — A Great Summary of the Spiritual Journey According to Kabir and the Sants of India

The body is a forest of blooming flowers,

But only the wise can pluck them.

How does one attain to this wisdom?

Firstly, go to the perfect Teacher,

And learn from him the inner teachings.

Contemplate on the words of the saints,

And strengthen your faith day by day.

Secondly, cast all your doubts away,

And shun the perception of duality.

See the One dwelling inside and outside.

Achieve this and you're a saint.

Thirdly, rise above outer attributes,

And take a seat at the "third eye",

This is truly the suitable throne

Where you hear the Divine Melody.

Fourthly, reign in the restless mind,

And abandon all your cleverness.

Swing on the swing of divine love,

And entreat the Teacher for the gift of devotion (bhakti).

Fifthly, acquaint yourself with the eternal elements.

And exert mastery over the senses.

Sixthly, let consciousness pierce the six chakras,

And reaching above them, see the Light.

Make perfect the left and right nerve currents,

And dwell in the cave of the Void.

Seventhly, let truth enlighten your life,

And behold the Supreme Spirit within you.

Grab hold of the silken thread of realization,

And climb to the Eternal Abode.

Eighthly, let the lotus of consciousness bloom,

And render your heart resplendent.

When in your soul you see the Eternal,

Then you're fit to be called a saint (Sant).

Ninthly, your portals of perception will open,

When you make an ally of the Perfect Master.

You will see that the soul is not the body,

When the Master shows the soul's unity with God.

Tenthly, you'll reach the door of liberation,

Where the Divine Melody resounds.

Kabir says, "Listen to me, my brothers and sisters,

Only a rare one considers my teaching."
