Sant Kirpal Singh on, Who is Competent to Initiate? Light and Sound on The Path

Sant Kirpal Singh on, Who is Competent to Initiate? Light and Sound on The Path

Naam Or Word is one of Sant Kirpal Singh's greatest books, on the study of the Sound Current (Word, Logos, Saut-e Sarmad) in the world scriptures especially the Sikh scriptures. Below is excerpted from Part Eight, on Deeksha - Initiation.

Who is competent to initiate?

The initiation into the esoteric science of the soul can successfully and rightly be granted by some perfect Saint or Master--an adept in the art and science of Para Vidya or the Knowledge of the Beyond. One who has not him-self extricated and freed his spirit from body bondage and transcended into higher spiritual regions and who has not seen Reality face to face and who has not, by spiritual practice, become established in Truth, cannot possibly do anything in this behalf. A Saint of the highest order alone is competent to reveal the Path and lead Godward, regardless of what we call him: Sant Satguru, Murshid-i-Kamil, Prophet, Messiah or Master-soul. As light comes from light, so does life from life. The scriptural lore, by itself, is unable to impart this life-impulse.

The instruction in the esoteric teachings consists of the exposition of Simran, Dhyan and Bhajan, that is to say, repetition (mental with tongue of thought only) of the words which are charged with the power of the Master; concentration or meditation (fixing consciousness or gaze) at the center of the two eyebrows; and linking the spirit with the saving lifeline within, ever reverberating in the form of the perennial Sound Current, the very life-breath of the Universe, of which the Master himself is the living embodiment. As soon as a devotee is able to transcend the physical body, the Radiant Form of the Master (Guru Dev) appears in the subtle plane and becomes a guiding force to the spirit on the journey into higher spiritual realms, bringing him back to the True Home of his Father. Henceforth the Master-spirit never leaves the soul, but continuously helps and directs, visibly and invisibly, directly and indirectly, in this life and the life hereafter, as the occasion may demand.

No man, however learned he may be, however high his morals be pitched, can by his own unaided efforts rise above body-consciousness. The experience of the spirit withdrawal while living can be vouchsafed only by a Master Saint and by no one else, and without this transcendence one cannot peep into the world beyond and take hold of the Sound Principle the Divine Chord in man, the link between the Creator and His creation.

Initiation from a Master-soul is of paramount importance, for herein lies the secret of all esoteric teachings and esoteric experience. It means a new birth and a new life, entirely in a new setting. This spiritual birth or birth in the Master is called a second birth, and enables a person to turn over a new leaf, to say goodbye to the past and march forward to this original Home, the long-forgotten paradise New Jerusalem, the Holy City, Muqam-i-Haq or Sach Khand.

Vegetarianism and the Yoke of the Lord in the Didache, by James Bean

Vegetarianism and the Yoke of the Lord in the Didache, by James Bean

In an early Christian text called the Didache is a statement to new gentile converts to do the best they can, giving them time to adjust or transition to the ethical ideals of the Jesus Movement: "If thou art able to bear the whole yoke of the Lord, thou wilt be perfect. But if thou art not able, what thou art able, that do. But concerning meat, bear that which thou art able to do. But keep with care from things sacrificed to idols, for it is the worship of the infernal deities."

"The Yoke of the Lord" was a term for the ethical code of the Jesus movement according to the Didache, an early witness to vegetarianism at a time when some of the first gentiles became interested in following Christ. Vegetarianism was part of the Yoke of the Lord and here very opposed to even new converts from day one eating meat sacrificed to idols (“the worship of dead gods” as it’s rendered in another translation). Whoever composed that section of the Didache was part of a sect closer to the James the Just branch than Paul's version of Christianity. See Didache, chapter 6: https://othergospels.com/didache

The Divine Ground of Being, the Center of the Soul

The Divine Ground of Being, the Center of the Soul

"There is a speaking of God in the core of the soul where no creature can enter or speak, for only God lives there and only He speaks. God speaks there when the soul puts aside all that is created, when she silences her powers and gains a vision into the foundation of her pure essence. In this pure and silent soul God the Father speaks and she hears His voice." (The Book of the Poor in Spirit by a Friend of God, Johannes Tauler, approximately 1300-1361)

An old favorite quote. Glad to have found a copy of this spiritual classic online. Those medieval mystics go nicely together with the gnostic texts.

Rare Druze Gnosis About Not Putting Limits on God

Rare Druze Gnosis About Not Putting Limits on God

“To seek God without knowing ‘El-Hdoud’ (The Sacred Limits) means falling into the net of he who refused to bow down before the Wisdom of God’s Appearance in the Adamic Limits, and hence, proposed to set his own limits of what God is. This is what otherwise known as the most original form of evil that is deeply embedded in the Soul’s method of seeing Reality.”

— Druze Wisdom, from an old Druze website that talks about the gnostic scriptures: https://web.archive.org/web/20071006031123/http://www.druzenet.org/dnenglish.html

Commentary

I believe what this is saying is: do not have a limited approach to God and perceiving Reality. Do not limit God by bringing God down to our level of existence. God, by definition, is Limitless, Formless, Infinite, and Timeless. Therefore, to approach the Supreme Being, not with open-mindedness, awe, wonder, curiosity, and flexibility about experiencing Reality in whole new ways quite differently from the familiar earthly existence with the five senses, we just end up filtering these Divine Unknowns through our limited temporal bias and do not benefit. Conventional religions have it backwards for the most part. Rather than building minuscule temples of wood and stone for the Supreme Being to squeeze into in an attempt to bring heaven to earth, it is we that need to go There. The soul must ascend and go to the Divine Level, to transcend temporal existence via another kind of consciousness. As Meister Eckhart once said, “If the soul is to see God, then it must see no temporal thing, for as long as the soul is conscious of time or space, or of an idea, it cannot know God.” So yes: stillness; so yes: rising above body-consciousness, rising above thoughts and ideas, beliefs, theologies, earthly understandings. So yes: meditation. — James

Kirpal Singh — Dear Children of Light

Kirpal Singh — Dear Children of Light

Be good and do good. These five words contain in them the essence of all religions of the world. My work shall be amply repaid if you live up to them.

If we could only still our intellect and remain embedded with love and trust in him, then we could reach our true Home without any exertion on our part.

God is love. When our soul comes in contact with his overflowing love, we are saturated with his love through and through, which washes away all dirt of sins of the past and merges us in oneness with the Father.

Peep and continue peeping within your self with overflowing love to see and contact the Master Power residing in you, who will then manifest to you and guide you step by step on to the path of Truth that your love will open for you.

Stand on your belief on solid ground. Let not others’ wayward opinions deflect you from the true path you are on. Let not promises of glory by anyone waylay you. Do not come to hurried conclusions, but use discrimination in all your undertakings. Stick to what is Real. With an ethical and loving background your spiritual success is definitely assured. My love and best wishes are always with you in all your noble efforts and holy journey to your Home.

You have been put on the way to God that is the most natural and easiest of all. Do not be led away from the path. Transcend the body to have a flight in the higher regions to know thyself and see that you are a drop of the great ocean of consciousness. Radiate love to all creation. The grace of the Master Power is working over your head bountifully. Let us breathe out through every pore of our body: “Love and peace be unto all the world over.”

You are protected by the Master Power working overhead. Depend on him. You will have all the necessary inner help. The Master Power is waiting for his dear children to come to him within.

With all love to each one of you,

Kirpal Singh

Beloved Radhasoami (Lord of All Souls) is Your Protector

Beloved Radhasoami (Lord of All Souls) is Your Protector

Some selections of Radhaswami hymns found in the book, "Niyamawali," published in Agra, India:

Guru is my Father and Mother. Who can describe His glory and eminence?

Beloved, merciful to the humble, Radhasoami, does good to my soul every moment. (Prem Bani Radhasoami, Huzur Maharaj)

0 Jiva [soul]! Why do you worry? Beloved Radhasoami is your protector. When you were born, He arranged milk for your feed and had your mother bring you up. He took care of you in every way and attracted you to His Holy Feet.

He provided you with all the pleasures of the senses and showed you the transitory nature of the world. He then drew you to Satsang and gave out to you the secrets and mysteries of the Nij Ghar (True Home). By His grace and mercy, go up and open the Tenth Door.

He improves your understanding by His discourses. He lets you examine the true nature of the mind, enabling you to give up your entanglements, delusions and adherences to past beliefs. He applies your Surat [Soul's Attention] to Shabd [inner Current of Sound and Light]. Ascend to higher regions and see beautiful scenes.

He makes the bell and the conch audible to you in Sahas-dal-kanwal [Thousand Petaled Lotus]. He shows you the splendor of Guru in Trikuti [Causal Plane, second inner Region]. See moonlight in the expanse of Sunn, and, reaching the perfect region beyond Bhanwargupha, perform Arti of Sat Guru.

Taking a telescope from Sat Purush, proceed to Alakh and Agam. Beyond lies the infinite Radhasoami Dham. Behold it and be enriched place your head at His Holy Feet. (Prem Bani Radhasoami, Huzur Maharaj)

Have patience. Do not be dejected. Fix your Attention on, and absorb yourself in the Holy Form of Guru. Always sing His praises. Make no excuses. This should be your aim, just as the Papiha (the sparrow hawk) patiently waits in expectation of the Swanti rain with a fixed aim.

Direct your Attention inward, do not allow it to flow out anywhere else. Put up with every thing inwardly. Accept nothing but internal joy. Have patience. Do not divulge acts of grace of Sat Guru to others. Live with Radhasoami like a fish in water. (Sar Bachan Radhasoami Poetry, Soami Ji Maharaj)

Why We Begin Meditation at the Third Eye Center in Sant Mat… It’s the Seat of the Soul — Baba Ram Singh

Why We Begin Meditation at the Third Eye Center in Sant Mat… It’s the Seat of the Soul — Baba Ram Singh

When we sit for meditation, we close our eyes and then we focus our thoughts at the back of the Eye Center. And our faculty of visualization is also there, which also visualizes the Form of the Master within. And by doing Simran, we concentrate our attention and focus at the back of the Eye Center. Then, automatically, when we sit for meditation, our attention starts getting focused on the Form of a Master at the back of the Eye Center.

There are the rishis and munis who also do meditation. But their meditation and their focus and attention are slightly different. Instead of focusing at the back of the Eye Center, what they do is, they start focusing on the chakras.

So, in the physical body, we have six chakras. And starting from the lowest chakra, they start doing the mantra. Each chakra has a mantra, and what they do is, they repeat the mantras. And, when a certain number of times that mantra is done, tens of thousands of times, then that chakra opens up. And, that way, they start progressing by opening each of these chakras and going inside and up within their body. So, for them to take and open each of the six chakras and then the seventh above that and go up, inside, it takes a very, very long time.

Mahatmas say that when someone has to climb a mountain and he is midway, standing on the mountain, there is no point in going down to the bottom of the mountain and then climbing all the way up again. Instead, he should climb upwards from where he is.

The soul is currently situated at the back of the Eye Center. And, therefore, Saints say that you start from there. You start focusing there and focus your attention where the soul and the Master stay. That is at the back of the Eye Center.

Therefore, we should lovingly focus our attention and do the Simran and the Dhyan, that is, the contemplation of the Form of the Master while doing Simran at the back of the Eye Center. When we do this lovingly, we also start getting the Grace of the Master there.

— Baba Ram Singh, The Ladder Of The Sound Current Connects The Soul Back To God Almighty, With The Grace Of The Master, 2016 Satsang Discourse
